Street Fighter Collection announced, 12 game compilation for PS4/PC/XBO/Switch

The original Street Fighter game launched in 1987, which means this year is the series' 30th anniversary, and to celebrate, Capcom has announced that they will be packing together 12 games from the Street Fighter franchise, in one compilation pack. Included will be the following:

  • Street Fighter
  • Street Fighter II
  • Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
  • Street Fighter II: Champion Edition
  • Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting
  • Street Fighter II: Turbo
  • Street Fighter: Alpha
  • Street Fighter Alpha 2
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3
  • Street Fighter III
  • Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact
  • Street Fighter: 3rd Strike

Street Fighter II, II Turbo, Alpha 3, and 3rd Strike will also feature online multiplayer as well. Street Fighter Collection will be releasing sometime in May 2018, for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.

I had to look at the list again, the very first street fighter? O_O

WHY! ANYTHING BUT THAT!

I would have even taken Street fighter 2010 or street fighter the movie over that game. Joking aside, ultra street fighter 4 would have been a greater choice, and why all those version of the game, just SFII HD remix would been fine or Hyper street fighter 2. I'm just glad street fighter alpha 3 is coming back with online mode FINALLY. :yayswitch:

Let me guess... $60 for a glorified emulator + roms pack?
I doubt it, since retail for any of the Megaman Legacy Collection games is $20. Chances are they'll use that same price for the Switch versions, and if they price the SF Collection any higher than that, people will just buy Megaman instead.

My hope is $40, that should be enough i suppose. I mean i don't agree with most ports being over that price, and most publishers don't sell ports for that price, but most of those games didn't have to be on there, it just is for nostalgia reasons, do we really need the very first street fighter game? Well is the reason why this is the 30 anniversary, but it SUCH A POORLY PROGRAMED GAME! If they fixed it, then maybe I would hope so, but is still just one character to play with.

Do we need all versions of street fighter 2? Why not just one? Like hyper street fighter 2, SF2 HD remix? Just have adjustable settings and modes to use the other versions. 15 years ago, we had this.

Two games and a movie, Hyper street fighter 2, Street Fighter 3 Third strike, and The anime movie.

5 Games and some unlockable content as well. If ps3/4 was just either be backwards compatible or even just put on the playstation store, people would be playing this instead long time ago. Capcom has been making some rather unfavorable decision with this series. I dunno how long they can keep this up.

Let's hope it isn't more than $40.

This is definitely not something I expected Capcom, of all companies to do, Switch must've done something right :P This never would've happened on Wii U.

I'm all for legal emulation of ROMs to be honest, I heard it's only 40 bucks, for all those games, compared to VC, it's a helluva deal.

You mean Super Street Fighter 2? Online multiplier is the clincher, that's really exciting. I played the Champion Edition the most. I played Turbo a bit as a kid, and Alpha 3 on GBA, so revisiting them on a different console sounds sweet. I still own Champion Edition on Sega Genesis and the game still works.

I think that's the reason they didn't include SFIV, to keep the price lower. If they had included IV I'd say $40. Since they didn't, $20 sounds right. These are all games anybody can easily download and play with an emulator.

Well It could be worth paying for instead of various remasters of the same game, do we really need all 5 versions of sf2 and 2 versions of sf3? Hyper street fighter 2 or super street fighter 2 HD remix, Third strike, Alpha 3 and Ultra SF4, Smaller list and probably still in the $40 range.

I think they may do a SF4 port to switch as separate purchase and reduced price sometime as download only like on ps4, I don't mind. They probably chose this list cause it was easier to do than trying to port the game over.

Fighting Street and Street Fighter 2 Turbo are all you need :)

Not that the rest is bad but nostalgia on the first and gameplay on the 2nd woot :P

(Nostalgia for people who owned a TG16 and the CD drive and that game)

It's not rocket science - SF4 isn't there because it would require a full port, whereas these games can just run using CPS1/2/3 emulators.

For anyone wondering why games like street fighter alpha 2 gold, street fighter alpha 3 max, super street fighter 2 turbo hd remix, and other games of the sort are not included, this collection uses the arcade versions of street fighter only. No console variants. The only exception to this rule i can think of that is not in this collection for some reason is street fighter alpha/zero 3 upper since that is actually an arcade update to the original street fighter alpha 3 which adds characters like guile, deejay and fei long from the console versions of the game. Ingrid is a psp exclusive character.

Also technically not a complete street fighter collection without the arcade versions of street fighter the movie, street fighter ex plus, street fighter ex 2 plus, and street fighter iv/4.

Really? I'd say that the gameplay in III and Alpha pretty much beats what II had.

I mean, Alpha 3 had -isms which added a bit of depth to the game, and III had stuff like parrying. Compared to those, II seems a bit bare-bones, if you ask me. Don't get me wrong, Street Fighter II is still a great game. It's just that its sequels improved upon it in various ways.

I still would have liked console ports. SF Alpha 3 had so much stuff in the game it is a shame if it just arcade, practice, and online mode. What about world tour, custom characters, survival, tag battles, team battles 100 Kumite? All that was just too good for the psp port and worth it, having only arcade ports and the missing characters the PSP game had doesn't mean that much just to replace with Online mode. Is true I wanted online mode for street fighter alpha 3 port for years, but I figured it be a $15 download like Third strike online edition. Only way to tell if I am disappointed is to see the game for myself.

If they had the secret hyper street fighter alpha from the alpha anthology, I be happy, that game needs to come back and grace the fans who missed out on this MUGEN like game :P

SFA3 Upper was presumably not included because it's actually a Naomi game. It's based on the Dreamcast port rather than the CPS3 original, despite being an arcade game. They'd need to code a Naomi emulator for one game.

It's unlikely they still have the source code for such old games. What would be the point anyway? They can emulate the games perfectly. Porting so many games would be a mammoth, unnecessary task.

Relying on emulation is nothing short of lazy. I can actually understand in most instances of legacy collections. It just irks me when they say "HD" but it's just something we've had for years with upscaling and filters.

The reality is that until around 10 or 15 years ago, developers and publishers did not take care of source codes. Especially with Japanese developers. There are bizarre cases of developers having to reverse engineer their own games.

It's why many ports of old games are based on ports themselves, because source code of later ports may exist but not sources for the original.
