Yeah, but everyone was telling you all along not to update your Wii U, but I continuously did, and by the time that CBHC was publicly released, I was on the latest Wii U firmware and it worked like a charm. The Wii U was an era where they told us not to update the whole time, yet by the time you could really hack your Wii U, you could be on the latest FW to do it. The 3DS constantly found new exploits for the latest FWs that Nintendo kept having to patch away, you could be out of luck for a few months to hack a 3DS, but typically one way or another an exploit would drop until we got to the point where we're at now where an impossible to block exploit exists regardless of the FW. And the Wii would get patched, but was so easy to exploited that it would almost immediately find a new exploit when any new FW tried to block entrypoints.

See what I'm saying? That their stance that the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS should stand as examples as reasons not to update to ensure you can hack your system, are poor examples of why you shouldn't update considering with each FW update containing blocks to entrypoints, other new ones would arrive fairly quickly. I'm aware that the Switch is a different beast, and that new entrypoints wont be found nearly as quickly or easily, as such, I think it should be compared to much more difficult to exploit systems based on firmware, like the PS3.
I just made the comparison because people come crying afterwards. First they tell the same shit ''oh update it's no problem blablabla'' and then they come crying afterwards, even if a console gets an entry point quite soon. I just made that comparison because they acted exactly the same way then as people are doing now with the switch and afterwards they came crying and spammed the fucking entire forum with '' am i fucked ?'' and it's gonna be the same thing now. Plus the switch makes downgrading literally impossible plus i think it's a lot more secure then previous systems so

Plus... Plus... Plus.. Ultra?

In all seriousness.. I haven't seen people saying "update" ever come back and piss and moan about an exploit.

I personally think a Sky3DS-like flashcart will come before CFW to load commercial roms. I don't need retroarch emulators on yet another nintendo device, I have enough of those to play classic games on.
But Retroarch on the Switch would be awesome because of the portability. 3ds doesn't have the power and resolution to make classic games look good.
And usually on portable systems you have to run the lower accuracy versions of emu. Like snes9x 20XX.

My phone can play pretty much anything the switch will be able to emulate and it's much more portable. That or my nvidia shield portable, which also has a controller built in and is as portable as the switch and it's a lower price. I bought my switch to play switch games, not emulators. I have other devices for emulators if I absolutely need to play emulators.

I personally got my son a switch for his bday and he know never to get online as I have let him know the exact reasons for not updating. I also explained that i am not getting a 2nd one as it is 299 plus tax plus game plus another 60 dollars for square trade 2 year protection. He also has an xbox1s, xbox live for minecraft and my many gaming PCs, one I recently built with a 1080gtx for mixed reality (hp set on ebay for 230$!!) and too many tablets and used phones to count to play the children's tapping games that are so popular like geometry dash APKs( i cant stand it when gaming is done on a phone). My friends have switches and odyssey and SO far nothing excites him as much as BOTW, thats it. Switch is zelda machine.

Best new game for him. He cannot stop obsessing over it and I think its a PERFECT game for kids 8 and up.... NFC BOTW stickers made with TagMO, best dad evar move. CEMU with usbhelper for supermario world 3d, a whole lot of 4 player games with xbox one controllers/switch controllers on the PC, best dad evar move. The only thing I didnt get him and cant get him is minecraft on switch but he has minecraft on EVERY DEVICE.

If you are a cool dad, and cant bust out a 1080gtx to emulate other cool mario games temporarily or cant torrent a bunch of seasons of story modes to sway the kid in your favor of being on the uber hold out team, I would just update the switch and let him enjoy odyssey. Its really not that big of a deal. In a years time you will have played all the cool games that are popular in which I would only be saving a few bucks to play freely on my modded switch, which happenes to hold neo geo games and snes games and some launch switch titles.

just my 2 cents as a father

if you are afraid of bricking your console, than why are you even here in gbatemp?
is it to spread brick paranoia?
i can see right through you.
They are on gbatemp BECAUSE they are afraid of bricking. Mommy and daddy didn't buy his switch, he bought it with his own money. You'll find people care more for their things when they cost $80+

The kid doesn't even know he has it yet...its unopened and I was simply asking for advice.
I am not depriving him of any updates, it will be his console.
I understand I f#cked up with my grammar, but I don't really give a sh#t.
I'm gonna buy the game, then wait, then check gba Christmas eve before I wrap them.
Hopefully my grammar is good enough to pass this information along.
Thanks everyone...merry Christmas.
I cant believe this thread grew to 5 pages.

Price doesn't matter since I'm getting a switch anyway for its exclusives. Emu is just giving me more games to play on it.

The Switch also has the VC service. Im guessing your not gunna use it.
So either Nvidia sp, phone, switch, or other. More choices to play emu on.

My point is why hold one device back on what games to play simply to have yet another emulation machine. I already have multiple others that can do it. Imo if you bought a switch and are waiting on 3.0.0 almost exclusively for emulators you are kinda being dumb. You'll be stuck with only a set list of fewer than 30 games, and the devs have stated it's unlikely you will ever be playing 3.0.1+ games anytime remotely soon if ever.
So you are telling me you bought a $300 console and you will only play what was released in the first 7 months of its existence just so you can have just another emulation machine? Not trying to be rude, but thats just dumb to me.
Also I never said I don't buy VC. I probably will. What I am saying is hindering a console to only the first 7 months of games isn't worth it to me just to have another emulation machine when I already have other devices that can do that perfectly fine already.

You said you bought to play switch games not emu. VC is emu.

Who said I was gunna stick with 3.0.0?
All I said was retorarch on switch will be cool to use.

You won't be using retroarch on anything above 3.0.0. That's the only firmware homebrew will be on at this point. My argument was that waiting out on 3.0.0 and limiting what official games can be played for homebrew emulators is not worth it when many other devices can do emulation. Retroarch will never be officially released, meaning it would require homebrew. Why hold back on playing anything newer just for something that can be done on something that can play emulators natively.

Who knows, hackers find exploits all the time. Look at the new PS3 exploit that just came out on the latest firmware.

Yeah that took them 7 years. And even then you could have used hardware to downgrade. No downgrading at all on switch, and with your PS3 example you'll be looking at at least a couple years before you'll get to have exploits on newer firmware. So at least 2 years without being able to play anything that gets released other than the first 7 months of releases. All just so you can play emulators. Please explain to me what makes that worth it just for emulators when you already have other devices that can also play emulators natively. Because so far devs don't seem interested at all in working on firmwares newer than 3.0.0

Again who said I'm gunna stick with 3.0.0. Im upgrading to newest firmware. If an exploit comes out then cool, if not then I guess I won't play retroarch.
All I said is it would be nice on switch. Just another option to play emu on.

And I highly doubt they won't be interested. Im sure they'll be interested in hacking the up to date firmware.

Then why do you bother replying to me when my point had nothing to do with you? Obviously I wasn't including people who are updating and don't care about homebrew. You keep involving yourself when my point has nothing to do with you.
