In getting a bit of buyers remorse I love my Nintendo switch but the games are mad expensive. I don't know much about the Nintendo switch online service so I'm hoping that Nintendo includes something like Xbox game pass... I love the switch but Nintendo just doesn't seem to be doing a lot of things right with this online service yet again it is too early to judge really on how good or bad it is but I'm just curious to see if there's going to be something like Xbox game pass before Nintendo games anyhow could be appreciated thank you

That type of thing is a natural result of the progression of time. Switch is a much newer console than Xbone, of course its games are also newer and more expensive. Nintendo doesn't have to start making compromises until later.

They are, you get a free NES/SNES game per month (once the paid service starts)
It's not much, but for $20/yr it's not too bad, the competitors' offerings cost way more, can't really expect the same level of benefits at less than half the price.
I hope they will expand the offer to include other things than VC games though. I can already play those on a lot of other devices. Some indie games every now and then would be nice.

They actually changed that, now you get access to multiple VC games and (AFAIK anyways) they don't expire any longer. It'll only be NES games at first, with SNES games being added "in the future".

I think the way they said it would work is that one new game is added to the library every month and they rotate so sometimes older games are removed as new ones are added. Don't really remember though.

Like I said, they changed that. Now it's just whatever classic games they decide to add, and you get to play them as long as you have the subscription. Which is infinitely better than their previous garbage "1 game only a month and you can't keep it".

UPDATE (9:50pm): Nintendo confirmed that this monthly plan has indeed changed, telling Kotaku: “Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will have ongoing access to a library of classic games with added online play. Users can play as many of the games as they want, as often as they like, as long as they have an active subscription.”

Nintendo adds: “Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be able to play a wide variety of classic games, including Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight and Dr. Mario. More games will be announced at a later date. At launch the classic game library will include NES games. Super NES games continue to be under consideration, but we have nothing further to announce at this time.”

The closest thing you'll get to the Xbox game pass in the foreseeable future is Nintendo's online service with nes and SNES games. It'll be a few years down the road before Nintendo would consider doing something similar to game pass, as the switch has a much smaller library and is still under a year old (so games like doom and skyrim are more expensive then other consoles and how they will be priced in a few years on switch) when compared to the Xbox one. I like the idea of something similar to Xbox game pass with a mix of Indies, maybe a few bigger third party games, and vc games, but I don't see it happening for a long time, if ever other than the vc service to be honest.

That doesn't exactly contradict what I said though. Not sure where I read that actually (the part about the games being rotated) but otherwise it's the same thing as what that post says.

i'd like to note to everyone here that, if you're paying for a subscription, the games aren't free

it's like saying you get free movies when you pay for netflix

Perhaps like Netflix, everybody here just leeches their PSN and XBL subscriptions off someone else.

This. I'm so tired of hearing "free" used in this sense.
