That sounds plausible. I have seen first hand the effects of acetone on plastic. It basically dissolves part of it into a pool and would leave colored residue like that shown in the picture. Some kinds of plastic are vulnerable, others aren't, but I've never seen battery acid make cracks like that, so acetone is more likely.
I do have to mention though that there isn't actually a gap underneath the battery-side air vent. The nearest gap is the one on the opposite air vent, which you can see on this picture from iFixit:
So if the battery did leak, that would be the most likely escape route. Not sure how it would get under the stand though, since there is no gap for it to escape through there...

It would only fry if the liquid actually conducts electricity. Water on its own is not a very good electrical conductor, but tap water conducts electricity due to the minerals in it. I don't know about battery acid though.

The thing is, the battery would continue to work as long as there is charge left in it and the protection circuit doesn't trip. And the protection circuit would only trip under certain conditions such as overvoltage, undervoltage, overtemperature and overcharge. So I don't think that alone is reason enough to think it's not battery acid. It's hard to tell at this point but the acetone theory seems the most likely.

He just said I was right P:

He said it makes sense. Which I agree with. Just pointing out the flaws :P
How the hell could you tell that was acetone though? As far as I can tell barely a bit of the cap was exposed and there was no way to tell what was actually in the bottle.

He just confirmed it was nail polish remover. He did say it was plausible so he didn't confirm it was actually the cause like you said. But its the most logical right now.

My question is what was a male doing with nail polish remover?
And there are some weird porn users on his screen. Hmmmm.......

New case we have to solve. Sony use your detective skill to figure this one out.

Chat log said "side table" which means living room, therefore a female family member left it there. Also to support the theory, he toweled the Switch off by resting it on top of his ceramic-top stove, which was probably only a short distance from the living room, then brought it to his bedroom for the other photo.

Well like you said he didn't exactly confirm it (even though you said he confirmed it right before that )
But I still want to know how @SonyUSA knew it was nail polish remover. Maybe they have the same brand and recognized it. I would have never been able to tell myself since barely any of it showed.

Acetone has its uses though. Nail polish remover is just the easiest way to get it, and it's mostly pure acetone. The coloring they sometimes use might not be the best depending on what your uses are though.

Show that photo to any girl and I bet they will be able to tell you it's nail polish remover >_> (teen or older). They ALL look like that... lol

What he confirmed was that it was nail polish remover in the picture.

What he didn't 100% confirm was if it was the reason for the damage.
But he said it was possible it was the cause of the damage.

Meaning maybe it spilled but not 100% sure, with the wording he used.
honestly, at this point this is much more logical than the battery leaking

That wording is not 100% i'm sure confirmation from him.

But this is the most likely logical explanation right now.
And doesn't seem like the battery leakage or over heat melting are good explanations.

What finish is on the table it 'leaked' on? Varnish etc? if its varnish the nail varnish remover would of stripped it... learnt that the hard way lol.

I thought most of them were pink. At least over here

Yeah, for sure, I agree with all of that.
Honestly I would like to see them open it up and verify if the liquid came from the battery or not. But if they do that their warranty is voided, so...

looks like... no idea what is the name in English.
A somewhat plasticky thing that you glue on top of fake wood (MDF, etc) to make it look like actual wood when you build a table/countertop/etc.

Because it's part portable, and people on the go want to suspend their gaming session instead of having to close everything and powering off the system every time.
I guess everyone has their reasons but this feature is useless to me. How long is the boot time for the switch? It shouldn't be that long.

Who cares how long is the boot time for the switch.
What matters is how long is the boot time for the switch + the boot time for the game + the time it takes the game load your save + the time it takes it to load the area of the game you saved on + the time it takes to you to go from wherever you saved to the place you were standing last time that of course never is the same.
Suspending is very useful on my Xbox One, and way more useful on a portable console like the Switch.

PS: All that summed up is quite a lot of time actually.

Sleep or suspending is a waste of electric and shortens the life of your product. How I wish I had an actual off button for my tv, I miss that feature.

What's the point of including that feature then? Isn't turning a device completely off and on from a cold power state more wear and tear since the likely point of failure is barely after turning something on?
