Are you sure you're talking about the same thing? Screen filter is available on any version. This topic is about the brightness control setting that allows NTR to lower brightness much lower than factory settings, which to my knowledge, is only something available on 11.3 and lower.

I guess im talking about something different then, but regardless im unable to use the screen filter unless I set the option before I launch an application.

I don't see the menu option for brightness control anywhere in the NTR settings menu, is that option removed if you are running anything later than 11.3 or something similar?

Having to run the filter before launching a game is pretty much how it's always worked.

And yes, brightness control is only available on 11.3 and below. I'm unsure of the details but something in 11.4 and up disabled access to it. So the option doesn't even show up.

Guess i'm going to be downgrading tonight then. If I do a full sysnand backup and also backup my SD card and the downgrade goes bad, I can revert both of those and be fine, correct?

I guess so. Not a helpful reply but I've never had to restore from a backup or anything. At least in my specific case, the downgrade just worked fine. Make sure you read my post though about it uninstalling your titles and shit, because it is a bit of a pain in the ass. Just nice to know ahead of time is all.

Is there an easy solution for that?, because I dont have a backup of 11.3 or below and uninstalling all my stuff will take a long time...

I really wish the Luma devs would prioritise fixing this, there were claims months ago of an upcoming workaround using Rosalina, but it seems there's been no progress.

I really wish the Luma devs would prioritise fixing this, they've been promising a fix for over 3 months, but no progress has been made. I'm very frustrated with the lack of updates, but even more frustrated by the devs' seeming inability to accept assistance in resolving the matter.
FYI Luma devs don't owe the community anything. If you want something done then either wait for it or do it yourself.

I tried, I was waved off because an official implementation was supposedly coming soon. That was in August. Now if you can be helpful and point me in the direction of where I can begin researching a solution to the problem I would be grateful, otherwise your "be thankful for you've got" attitude does noone any benefit.

How about trying to find something in NTR's source code https://github.com/44670/NTR

There is literally a solution to this problem posted in this thread by me on page one. If you don't want to use that solution for various reasons that's perfectly fine. But choose your words a little bit more wisely, in all regards. Telling you to be grateful does no one any benefits, but complaining about people who volunteer their time and give us amazing tools for free does nothing but polute the community.

Your "solution" is hardly a solution, more of a workaround. A solution would be updating the code for NTR to work with the latest version, that way you don't have to jump through hoops to get things to work properly.

Anyway enough about semantics, here is a way easier way to downgrade to 11.3:

0. Make a NAND backup before doing anything

1. Install https://github.com/profi200/sysUpdater/releases

2, Download 11.3 from http://darthsternie.bplaced.net/3ds.html for whatever region/system you have, and unzip the updates folder to the root of your SD card.

3. Delete 0004013020004202.cia from the updates folder

(I have a new 3ds and when I didn't delete this file before downgrading it would throw this error and refuse to boot

)

4. Launch sysupdater and hit Y to downgrade

The end result:

You could also take your 3DS down to your local auto tint shop and have them install 5% all-around, but I personally don't think that, or downgrading, are very elegant solutions.

To be clear, I did not intend to complain about the amazingly talented Luma developers or their superb character and excellent work. I simply have a minor beef with some in this community who spread untruths under the false pretense of being representatives for the developers.
