i would prefer they make a second game rather than quick cash grab dlcs that cost way too much, look at smash bros U, if you bough all the cosmetics and such you would pay way over 100$ just for the full dlc, that was ridiculous.
DLC content isn't usually enough to provide a second game. DLC is there to give players that are willing something extra and developers a way to earn extra money from a game after its release. With DLC, devs can even make money from used copies of games. FWIW, I don't often buy DLC (I bought the BoTW DLC and Mario Kart 8 DLC, though), it's something that must add a good amount of value to the game to get my interest. If I don't buy the DLC, I don't complain that it should be part of the full game or should have been made into the next game.

depends on the game, there are games and alot of them this days that come out as unfinished like EA and ubisoft games and them they sell you dlc wich are just codes to unlock on disc dlc, wich is spreding more and more this days, technicaly every amiibo dlc is locked on disc dlc that you have to pay quite hefty to get.

look at mk8, the dlc is basicaly 50% new game if they made another 50% they would have a full mario kart game lol.But i dont complain about mk8 becuase they actualy released the dlc on cartrige for the switch so its fine you can get the Full game if you want without buying dlc.

So far there hasnt been a smash bros DX and im assuming all the dlc will forever be stuck on wiiu and if you legitly buy all dlc you will pay almost 3 games.

The comparison with what EA are doing and what Nintendo are doing are laughable. Amiibo are collectible figures with bonus enhanced features for Nintendo games. The bonuses you get from amiibo are so pointless that they're not even worth mentioning. You're paying for the collectible figure but being rewarded for doing so. Even when you stop playing the game you still have something tangible, unlike DLC.

I doubt they could win either way doing that. If they made a new game and released it so close to Mario Kart 8, they'd be accused of cash grabbing by using the same engine with the same mechanics and not bringing any new features. As it turns out, the DLC was less than half the price of the full game when it launched, so 50% of a game for less than 50% of the price is a good deal, no? Also, MK8 Deluxe for the Switch contained all the DLC, so you can't really gripe about that, right?

And what if they're not cash grabs? What if it's good DLC content like with The Witcher 3? There are certainly many games that get it right. You can't make a blanket statement about DLCs.

its nintendo, they barely made any dlc ever so yeah i take the examples out of the dlcs they made, most of them are just behind amiibo paywals wich are even more expensive than dlc, others are just way too expensive like smash and others like mk8 wich it was a good price i mean 12 euros for 50% more tracks was a good deal but like i said that is like half of a full mario kart game they could have easily just made afew more tacks and released an all new mario kart.

like i said i dont complain much about mk8 becuase they did the switch release, but i complain about smash if you buy all dlc just see how much you have to pay its crazy.

Also some amiibo locked content is actualy decent like metroid samus returns fusion mode where enemies are harder and ou get the fusion suit, you cant play it until you spent 15$ on a samus metroid returns amiibo, oh no regular smash samus wont unlock that just the new one so even if you had a samus you need to grab another one.

Also who said they ha to release a new mk8 so close together and exactly same engine?

Look at super mario galaxy 1 and 2, they probably had craploads of maps so they just made the second one and added yoshi and a new power up and people still say its better than the first and no one complains about same engine.

nintendo has made a stupid rule for themselves about mario kart, smash and 3d mario games(until smg2) where they only release one per console generation why would anyone complain if they make 2 diferent mk games like 3 or 4 years appart and the latter one has diferent tracks, more charaters afew new items and modes? no one really.

SMG2 happen and all it got was good reception no one complained it was a cash grab on the same engine, heck its healthy for a second game to improve the first one errors instead of engine changing every damn time, do far smg and smg2 are the only ones on the same engine every other mario is on a totaly diferent engine from its precedors so it never improved the flaws of the engine.

Lemme work backwards through your points. It would've been completely pointless to make a brand new Mario Kart when the base mechanics wouldn't have changed. It's useless effort to ship a brand new game when DLC could suffice. Every Nintendo console only gets one Mario game for a reason -- the core mechanics never change. There only needs to be one release. Bonus tracks are better released as DLC. Amiibo functionality in Nintendo games is usually only for tiny little things, like outfits or item drops. The only egregious example is locking a harder difficulty behind a Samus Amiibo in that new 3DS Metroid game. Besides, that's not what we're asking for here with Mario. We want extra worlds. You yourself show that Nintendo's done both good DLC (Mario Kart 8) and poor (the litany of Smash DLCs). Obviously if any potential Odyssey DLC is really egregious, we'll call it out. But I'm arguing that DLC can be good, and favorable at times. Nintendo can do it well.

Yeah I do agree with that, it's fucked up and annoying.

But if they don't then the people who only had to wait 6 months for DLC now have to wait 2 years for a brand new game. DLC helps to keep existing games fresh.

SMG 2 released over 2 and a half years after SMG, I'm sure plenty of people would have been overjoyed to get new content as DLC during that time. People would complain about the cash grab if they were released close together, I think. They certainly do with other game series/genres that are released yearly.

Nobody would, but they have other brands to focus on. Games take a lot of input from different people at Nintendo. For instance, the art director for the Mario Kart series was also the art director for Arms. If they'd made a new Mario Kart game instead of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch, then Arms probably wouldn't have been released at the same time. You can tell that Nintendo has a small circle of trusted seniors that have oversight of games to ensure they are of the highest (from their point of view) quality. It's not as simple as hiring more people or throwing more teams at games because that might adversely affect the end product. They do generally have different studios working on different games but it's highly unlikely they're sat around smoking cigars and watching the DLC sales counters go up. They're working at full capacity all the time to develop new games and hardware the best way they know how.

still i prefer to wait and get a new game than getting some dlc for 2 years or so, smash dlc took alot of time and in the end it became quite expensive(more than 2 games expensive last time i counted it was over 120 euros for all the dlc) and you could have waited 2 or 3 years and get a new smash game with more characters and stages, heck the dlc took as much time as making the original game lol.
