Hardware 2ds Zelda edition firmware and grip

It launched today. Bought one. Before opening (might just purely collect), what's the firmware out of the box and how's the grip on these compared to 3ds or 2ds xl let's say?

the grip is pretty good in my opinion and I have all 6 3ds models.

OOT is legit and same old version as eshop/cart.

Oh ops, for some reason my brain thought that was a quote of my previous comment .
I've always just collected DS silently on my own, but I think I might hack it this time, I'm not too updated on the scene but does homebrew (or whatever other alternatives) be able to hack this firmware? I bought two of these today so I'm down to crack open one.

You will need to buy a DS flashcart (unless you have a compatible one already).

Could i do it with my old NDS R4 or should I buy a new one? Whatever this Gold edition R4 is. I remember my friend homebrew his with using a different R4

Any flashcart that is updatable bootrom can be used. Its just a matter if the ntrflasher supports it.

And i doubt your old r4 has updatable bootrom

I will recommend you buy a new R4 card, it's not expensive right? A good option is R4i gold 3ds+ or you can choose Ace3ds plus too.

Hey, OP, am Canadian and I have a bunch of R4i 3DS RTS that work with the ntrboothax. I can get them to you faster/cheaper.

If ya got a second hacked system with one the games listed then yes, you can easily do a dsiware transfer for it.
