Are there any other games that had as much advertising as Nintendo did with Mario Odyssey?

After a quick look at youtube, or even on nintendo network (There is videos on wii u, switch and 3DS) there is a ton of videos just advertising the game from videos ranging from dancing people, mario visit to new york, touring the USA and celebrating the release of the game. Without a doubt you can see nintendo put much effort into advertising this game. Suddenly I wonder if this probably the most marketed game to date... or least this decade. So I was wondering if there is other games or publishers who has done such things to the extreme.

There is plenty of games that comes out and hardly anyone know about it, no tv commercial, very low key product advertising even if it's sold at retail, so if anyone remember any, share some.

Erm...just a quick check: are you sure it's not just you who gets these messages? I mean...I thought I had no specific youtube-preferences, but I notice immediately when my girlfriend has logged me out of my account and into hers: it's suddenly all pop music and people treatment video's. And since the hardware is taken into account on this, getting more of nintendo's video's when watching on one of their devices is also pretty clear. Just to be saying: I haven't seen any commercials on Odyssey save one or two television ads. And the actual marketing budget can seem misleading if all their marketing goes to the potential buyers.

But that said...here's a wiki page with marketing cost in it. Call of duty 4 (200 million), GTA V (125 million) and FF 7 (100 million) will be hard to match. I looked around a bit, but couldn't find solid numbers on the marketing budget for Odyssey or most other recent titles. Forge of empires is apparently in the lead in commercials, but again: no real numbers or actual total budget.

EDIT: as for games that come out with very low product advertising...sorry, but I won't even begin to start naming those. Just look at the front page of steam on roughly any given moment.

At OP, get a adblocker or cookie cleaner for PC or Phone.

I almost never see Nintendo ads on sites I visit.

As for TV, Splatoon, Zelda an ARMS were heavily advertised via local broadcasting TV in the Netherlands, as wasthe switch itself.
I honestly think oddesy is advertised less, because it obviousely needs less ads.

Especially Nickelodeon etc had alot of ads. wich made no sese as switch byers are maniny 25-35 old male.

Yeah, Youtube piles related and similar videos into your recommendations as soon as you so much as click on a video (if you're logged in). Watch one Mario vid and the YT homepage becomes the Mushroom Kingdom. I watched one cooking video last week and now my page is the Food Network.

Not even close. The big AAA companies take the cake for their advertising budgets every year. Destiny, Call of Duty, Battlefield, EA Sports, etc. receive HUGE stacks of money for advertising, likely MUCH more than Nintendo spends. Remember: Destiny 1 was the most expensive game to date, with a budget of $500 million. Did it really cost that much to make the game? Heck no. It likely cost a fraction of that, while the vast majority of that sum was spent on advertising. I think Odyssey definitely received the most advertising of any Switch game to date, but pales in comparison to what the other companies spend marketing their big AAA games.

I can't speak for the rest of the world but here in Scotland Super Mario Odyssey has had next to no advertising there has been zero billboards or ads in newspapers and I have only seen the game advertised on TV twice both times at around 3am in the morning. The TV ad only lasts about 25 seconds of which about 3 seconds of game is shown and the remaining 22 secs is people horrendously dancing to a really shitty song.

For the record, i was not talking about money, i was just talking about the popularity of the content that they provide for the game. Various video trailers, specific video montages, merchandise of the cappy and amiibos, touring the country, game kiosk. Not really about the value of it all, just how much of effort they put into doing that.

Oh well i was making a general comment to those discussion money. But yeah, youtube is filled with tons of views and recommended videos of mairio. I'm just happy to know that there is still companies who care enough of their games to go that far for advertising. :)

Sorry, but I really don't see the difference. The money that is put into marketing comes out on the other end as trailers, television adds, gossip, interviews, reviewer copies, merchandise and so on. I'm no marketeer, so I can't really say which large studio has the most cost efficient marketing team, but I would think that the rule of thumb "more money means more effort" would still apply.

Sounds like commercials can be recycled for about 88%. :P

I think that's just a by-product of the content you watch. YouTube gives you advertisements and video recommendations based on your browsing history, so what you see might not be what everyone else sees. That said, I really enjoyed Odyssey's advertising campaign! It was so heartfelt and sweet, and definitely a change of pace from the standard AAA ads. A perfect send-off for Mario's first proper outing on Switch.
