I do :/ How will i know if i am running the Umbra Moon than vanilla moon?
Title screen and continue menu are both different in Umbra Moon. The icon and banner for the game on the 3DS menu will not change. The game logo in the Lillie cutscene does not change.

Hey Dio, thanks for making these games, they are a blast. Got my ass handed to me by you in the Pgauntlet though, damn conversion-z Porygon-z. Perhaps, for Supernova Sun and Penumbra Moon, you could make hidden abilities easier to obtain. That would be pretty cool.

Also I have a slight technical issue with my 3ds. So I was fumbling around with it when I couldn't Umbra Moon to work, turns out the problem was some saltysd files still being there after I updated to the new Luma update (with boot9strap). But by the time I'd figured out the problem, I had already reformatted my 3ds system (which sets the 3ds back to factory settings). How bad is that and can I undo any potential damage I have done?

I personally like where Hidden Abilities are at through SOS chaining, and any change I make to make them more available would break the entire concept of a Legit Build.

Assuming you have a copy of Moon as either a cartridge or an installation:
If you have your 3DS hacked with boot9strap, you're running Luma3DS 8.0+ and you can play Umbra Moon by simply downloading the pack, copying the luma folder to your SD, and enabling "enable game patching" in the Luma3DS config. Unfortunately, if you didn't back up your save file before formatting the 3DS, it's gone forever.

I managed to keep my saved game somehow, it was still there after I got umbra moon working again. Unfortunately I also just did some tidying up on my SD card and now when I start the game it crashes saying "An exception occurred", Exception type: prefetch abort (svcBreak).
Would you happen to know what could cause this?

Sounds like you need to re-download Luma3DS and all of that. Otherwise, no idea, almost certainly caused by you deleting the wrong files on the 3DS.

So I just made some backups before trying to fix this and re-installing luma. I completely reinstalled Luma, updated Luma using the updater, but the error persist. What on earth could cause this?

I have a question to the creator. Do you even play your own ROMHacks? That just suddenly came to mind and I'm interested in the answer.

Of course I do. Probably more than any one person, considering how many times I have to re-balance certain fights to get them just right. It was a nightmare when developing RR/SS because that was back in the day when CFW didn't exist: every time i made changes I had to
  1. back up the save file for my OR/AS ROM on my Gateway
  2. build the entire *.3ds file
  3. wait for it to copy to the MicroSD
  4. restore the save
  5. test the thing
  6. hope it works and is well balanced, else goto 1
Wasn't fun. Give thanks every day to our hacking overlords for the ridiculously easy patch mechanisms we have now, tweaking and testing NS/UM was like a dream and I'm certain doing so for SnS/PuM is going to be just as quick.

Anyway, in non-testing situations, I'll occasionally do a run of my own hacks but I prefer watching others attempt it. It's not the same when I've designed all the potential surprises that might come my way.

Honestly, while I agree wholeheartedly with you about Gen VI, Gen VII if you follow some rules is a solid challenge, and I was impressed with how much I enjoyed Sun the first time through. The rules I use in my playthroughs of normal Pokemon games:
  • No grinding against Wild Pokémon.
  • EXP share off unless you are more than five levels under the opponent, then turn it on for a few fights to catch up.
  • No use of minigames if they give notable bonuses (Super Training, Amie/Refresh, etc)
  • Never use items in battle except for Pokéballs.
  • ALWAYS USE SET MODE
And when testing my own ROM hacks, the only rule I break is obviously the EXP share one, since my hacks are built around EXP share's use.

I don't like Nuzlockes because I think the way you play when you're trying not to have any faints is tremendously boring. Grinding, spamming Potions, never taking glass cannon Pokémon when you can avoid it... Part of why I got into ROM hacking is because I wanted to make a Pokémon game that actually tested your skills and knowledge of the series that felt as satisfying to beat as a Nuzlocke would, without the whole "actually playing a Nuzlocke" part.

However, I'm glad to hear you're excited to play my hacks! They will almost definitely be out much sooner after USUM launch than Nova and Umbra were after SM launch. My workflow is pretty optimized and ready to go for the new games.

That's specifically what I wanted to know, just casual playing.
