Which one? He said he will buy the other game nontheless, so it only depends on the console itself.
The console differs in color tones of the joycons, hence my suggestion.
If you like red go for the Odyssey bundle, if you like green go for the Splatoon bundle.
I haven't read if he likes red or green, so that's the reason I gave the two options in my post above.

PS: I personally like neon colors more, so perhaps I would go with the splatoon one, but it is a matter of preference.

Get Splatoon, assuming you are OK with the color scheme for the joycons.

Get physical Mario ODYSSEY. Mario is the staple of a Nintendo collection.

Side note: I guess I got lucky because my launch system didn't have any joycon issues.

First you should really base it on the Controllers/Case that you most like as that is $100 alone and would cost more if you feel like switching them out.

So if you like the Mario Red colors and Case then this is what i would do:

1. Get the Mario Odyseey Bundle.
2. Buy Splatoon Digital like you want.

3a. Sell the Code for Mario to a friend or on Ebay and use that money to help pay off Mario Physical.
3b. If Mario is automatically tied to the system (not sure), Buy Mario when its a bit cheaper or when you have the money to and just enjoy the game digitally in the meantime.
Its not like Mario is gonna go out of stock. lol

Honestly I'm probably going to end up doing this, especially since Best Buy is giving away a Coin if you buy the physical game. It's not a huge deal, but it'll go nicely with my Smash 4 coin. Shame I don't live in the UK since Tesco is selling the Mario odyssey switch with Mario+rabbids for free.

I love the different colors of the joycons on the Splatoon bundle but I prefer the game Mario Odyssey. It's really up to you on what color of the joycons you prefer or would you go for the game that you're going to play instead. Either choice it's a win for me, IMHO.
