I'm not sure if i'm just doing this wrong or something, but does the main retroarch.cia work? I was kind of looking forward to having all the emulators in one single .cia but no matter how i seem to do it, its just a black screen when i launch it. I've looked around for an answer the past few days but I can't find one.

To be honest, i can seemingly not get any of the emulators to work... atleast not for MAME. The 2000 and the 2003 one crash about 15 seconds after loading into the menu and moving around.

The file named retroarch.cia is nothing but a forwarder (think of a shortcut) for your other emulators. You still need to have the other emulators installed if you want to use it. As for the mame emulators, I have always found them to be quite buggy. I personally don't use them.

Oh i see. That makes a lot more sense. Although it still does nothing with the mame emulators installed but that's honestly probably just because they're buggy.

The xmb menu still causes crashs in the last nightly version (10-30-2017), also it seems that the performance of the retroarch interface has waned compared to the version 10-16-2017. (Loading cores and games (psxrearmed))

So does this work on B9S? (it doesn't say in the OP). I am running Luma on B9S and regardless of core every time I try to load a ROM it crashes my 3DS and then powers off. I tried the nightly and the release builds.

Yes, it works on B9S 1.3 and Luma3DS 8.1.1. To prevent crashes you have to change the menu driver settings from xmb to rgui.

the performance of the interface has improved again in the version of 11-01-2017, but the reaction until it comes to the creation of savestates still takes very long (psxrearmed) and retroarch is still crashing under the use of the xmb menu driver.

I'm running B9S 1.3 and Luma3DS 8.1.1, I'm using the nightly build from 11/3/17 (haven't bothered updating to the most recent). I've tried old version and new, and tried changing the menu driver (I like rgui better anyway). I'm trying to run PCSX, and have installed that .cia and have copied the retroarch folder over to the root of my SD card. When I load into PCSX, I can navigate and pick stuff just fine but as soon as I load content (.cue files, also tried just running the bios .bin) it crashes and I have to reboot. Any ideas?

I haven't updated in a while because every version I've tried in the past year or so was unstable.
What's the best build these days?

Are you using the correct bios-file ? It should be something like scph55xx.bin depending on the region. I suggest to convert your isos into the pbp format. The advantage: only one file, smaller size and better performance. You can find the app for converting your files in my post on page 315

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

scph5500.bin is for Japan, scph5501.bin is for USA and scph5502.bin is for Europe
Just copy the bios-files to /retroarch/cores/system/ . The system-folder must be created by yourself.

Last night I downloaded the nightly version from 11/4/2017 and tried some new roms and got it working. I'm confused by this statement though, I just downloaded the cia version, and there is a cia folder with a cia file (frontend) for every emulator (I only care about pcsx so that's the only one I've installed) is that what you meant? There is no retroarch.cia in the files I downloaded.

Weird because there is and has always been the retroarch.cia that forwards you to the last core you used.

That's right, but retroach.cia is just a forwarder for already installed cores, isn't it? In the last nightlies since 11-05-2017, there is only the forwarder in the cia-folder, but not the actual needed cores...at least in the 3ds version of retroarch. For example, the PS Vita version looks different again. There is a single file with all cores integrated. As far as I am aware, the forwarder has only existed since the introduction of the xmb menu.

This only applies to nightlies since 11-05-2017. If you only use pcsxrearmed, the forwarder (retroach.cia) makes no sense. If you have multiple cores installed, you can use the forwarder to manage all installed cores with this one application. But in the cia folder of the nightlies since 11-05-2017, there is no core (p.e. pcsxrearmed.cia) present, except the forwarder (retroarch.cia)

1. There's no reason not to use CIA homebrew.
2. If you are on an old3DS those emulators will not work regardless of 3dsx or CIA, the O3DS doesn't have enough RAM.

I can absolutely, positively, 100% guarantee you that your friend didn't get banned because he used .cia emulators. He may have gotten banned, but that wasn't the reason. He was most likely playing a game online that hadn't come out officially yet. That, or cheating.
