So the flashcarts in question are a Supercard DSTWO and an R4i Gold RTS 3DS, both of which are working flawlessly on my New 3DS on 11.2.0-35U. However, the R4i was intended to be used on an Old 3ds that was running 9.24 but the system would not "read" the cart. The cart would not be recognized as being inserted in the main menu, original 3ds cartridges work ,but the flashcarts just don't show up. I tried looking for some more info on the issue but I am stuck now. Any ideas on what could be the root of the issue or how to fix it?

PS. I am not the original owner of the Old 3ds, it belongs to a young nephew so it is quite possible it has seen some abuse.

UPDATE: Just found and tested (on my personal 3ds) an official and working copy of mario kart ds. It seems the Old 3ds is refusing to read any cartridges with the ds form factor.

You can use your R4 to put cfw on both consoles (that way they will recognise even old flashcarts) and then update them. Update could fix the issue.
But don't quote me on this. I might be totally wrong.

Your Flashcard should at least show up in the 3ds Menu.

your problem is a psychical one the gamecard slot is a tiny bit too big (or better explained flashcards use unofficial housings that dont exactly fit all consoles like a glove) the solution is to cut and insert a card into the flashcard between the contacts and the plastic housing

UPDATE: Just found and tested (on my personal 3ds) an official and working copy of mario kart ds. It seems the Old 3ds is refusing to read any cartridges with the ds form factor.

I will try this method tomorrow since it seems is a physical issue with the smaller ds cartridges.

Download the DS CIA files from the guide and install them as it sounds like twl is not fully up to date

i am confused . . . do you mean a retail gamecard? or do you mean a working rom? (either way the 3ds.guide has you covered) Troubleshooting - 3DS Guide
and either way it does sound like a second unrelated problem from your first

A retail copy of mario kart ds, so it appears that the real issue id this Old 3ds cannot read any cartridges that do not have the shape of retail 3ds cartridges (with that extra bump).

ok do the first section of the troubleshooting and any gamecard that shows up will play Troubleshooting - 3DS Guide
. . . but as far as your flashcards not even showing up . . . i already answered that cut a playing card and stick it in the flashcard

Once I got back home I did what wormwood recommended, I inserted a folded piece of paper into the flashcart casing, and the R4i was now being read normally, thank you for your help.
