pedro702 > you're right, the game won't work on Not64 and VC, so I don't bother with it, I'll play the GC version lol

Shadowone333 > the DC version has extra feature too with the VM
The DC version has a ton of extras, even extra difficulties like Nightmare mode (iirc), same for the PC with lots of extras, which makes the PSX version just rather pointless in comparison.
N64 version has neat additions, and gets rid of the pointless EX Battle.
I still hold the N64 regarded as one of the best versions of RE2, if it weren't for the DC version, I would call it the best, but sadly it's a pain in the butt for emulators to run it well.

The Japanese version only works on first boot, if you reboot the console and try to load it again, you will get an awful framedrop and it won't go no matter what you do. The only thing would be to delete the save for it so that the VC thinks it's a fresh boot, but the issue will continue upon rebooting, save states don't help here neither.

Debatable, RE2 on the GC only has the graphics in its favor, everything else is just vanilla RE2 DualShock on PSX.
It was a straight port of that version, the extras are lackluster at best (EX Battle is just meh).

As an avid RE fan, and being RE2 my favorite out of the series and having played all versions available first hand, I can say the PSX versions don't hold up at all. GC version is there for convenience sake, but it's nowhere near the definitive version of RE2.
I still consider the N64 version superior due to reasons, and "better controls" you mention is the N64 version who has the best controls, it has an option similar to what the RE/Zero Remasters did, so without a doubt the N64 one has the better controls out of the bunch, and the graphics hold up incredibly well. The only thing that suffers here is the background resolution and the audio, but it's nowhere near as distracting.

In any way, if you were to go for a "definitive" version of RE2, the Dreamcast one or PC one would surely be the top tiers, and the N64 one being a close second. GC comes third just for the polish in graphics and sound but has nothing else besides that.
the gc version also has analog controls to choose from how is that not equal to n64 analog? ... heck they even say re2 gc controls like rezero and remake if you want to.

the dreamcast version is just worse than gc it has no advantages afaik why does it even rank up? lol the vmu crap is not even worth it...

obviously pc is always better since you can make hd testures packs and do 4k resolution lol.

It's not Analog controls that I'm talking about, but rather control options/Types within the game itself.
RE2 on the N64 has a special option called 1st person controls (or something like that) in the controller Types.
Basically, gets rid of the Tank controls, so you can now switch the character movement according to where you move the analog stick, as what RE/Zero Remasters did. This is an incredible addition for those that despise the Tanks controls and want more freedom while playing, which I don't recall any other version having.

Dreamcast version is basically the same as the PC in terms of extra content, just so you know...
PC has the overall advantage of course since you can mod it, but that's an unfair way to put things since we are talking about what each port has without modifying the game files themselves.

As far as console ports go, Dreamcast has a huge advantage in terms of extra content, then N64 in second place for me.

What is the hex name part? Is there a tutorial or compatibility list anywhere?
you just have to put 6 digits (0-9, A-F) in it and then it says you what you have to put in the meta/app.xml. It is for the tid. You dont need a compatiblity list for that.

new update!
I may be doing stuff wrong, but I get errors every time I try this new version. First it couldn't open notepad++ as the bat wanted to open notepadplusplus.exe. Now it seems it can't find or creat meta.xml and app.xml. After that it can't find Pack_Games.bat

So, am I just doing something wrong?
Also noticed that the source folder only has 3 files in it, is that alright? The previous version had more files in there :P
