I think that was just the idea of trying not to support ps3 cause it's kinda at end of life for some players. But even so is no excuse to do that to the ps3 players. It is cross platform play after all. The steam game is also the same way, only ps4 has retail with full dlc roster included, while ps3 and steam need a base game that cost original price plus $20 for upgrade expansion. Still the idea of people re releasing expansions as new games started with street fighter 2, Sure we didn't have dlc or update patches online in form of downloads, so they had to give us a reason to repurchase cartridges again, but now that we do and still do stuff like this is just getting a bit too old. Maybe people still like this, people who haven't purchased the game yet, gives new reason to have them buy it and be caught up on content, still now existing players be like "Wow, I paid $60 for a game with only 16 characters, no arcade mode, now new people get more with the $20 discount. 28 characters to start with and a arcade mode, full features story mode and no new gameplay to master."

Basically the "arcade edition" is for people who didn't buy the game yet. I don't really have any complaints, I bought it for $20 and a season pass for $10, another discounted season pass for $10 and I will have $40 spent on the game. The problem is the premium content that cannot be unlocked for the game and only be purchased with money. The fight money system is totally unappealing. You can only earn so much playing offline modes, and once you do get them, each character cost like 100,000 to obtain that is 1,200,000 for 12 unlockable characters you have to earn not to mention potential of more, and 70,000 for stages, while the rest are profile cards themes and titles, and story mode costumes and colors. Maybe if the stuff wasn't so expensive for the fight money or if winning ranked matches wasn't the only way to earn fight money outside of the one time only offline modes, it would be okay, but this new ex battle mode, once again has you sacrificing fight money to unlock stuff. How bout beat arcade mode on harder difficulties to get some colors or costumes, How bout beat it without losing rounds or continues? How bout performing specific actions during arcade mode to get special battles against character's rival to unlock something Like Street fighter 4 had? Or how bout releasing a game that is finished with a sizeable content worth paying $60, what kind of fighting game releases with no arcade mode!? :wtf:

Historically, subsequent releases of fighting games were based on balancing updates the company made to the arcade machines. There was a competitive scene, so they would balance stuff to change the meta. Like you said, they couldn't just patch the games for free, so they had to come up with some reason to make regular consumers buy a whole new game. Today, update patches are free, but overhauls are not. From a consumer standpoint, it seems like garbage - but I don't even play SFV, I watch professionals play it on TV. Whether or not AE will be worth it is whether or not they like it. A lot of pros don't really like the game, but just play it because they have to (has nothing to do with lack of offline modes, just the game's mechanics).

Also several games, including Tekken 6 for PS3 released without an arcade mode (they added one to the PSP version because of all the negative feedback). I honestly think Tekken 7's release is half-assed as well, I wouldn't even bother with it if that weren't my favorite fighter.

this is the best move capcom could have made. much better to update the game for everyone than split the playerbase again like sf4.

sure the game was lacking content on release but we've had a steady and high quality flow of new characters, returning characters, balancing and extra content for a year now.

could have used a better name than just arcade edition but i'm very happy with this update, and at least 1 more season of characters

In sf4's case the player base was split only once with the upgrade from sf4 to ssf4 which made sense because of the amount of changes done from sf4 to ssf4 was too large to make as an update patch. Afterwards all future updates were both update patches and in disc form.

For all the people complaining that Capcom went back on it's word, current owners still get all the new features from AE without having to spend any more money.

The new disc is mainly for people who still don't own SFV, think of it like a GOTY/Complete style edition (containing the 12 Season 1 & 2 DLC Characters ).

All the controversy around the game kinda makes me NOT want the game.

According to the trailer we have:
Ryu, Akuma, Chun-Li, Girl in Green called Laura, Egypt Girl called Menat, Girl in Russian outfit called Kolin, Guy in sand garbs called Rashid, Big guy in blue called Abigail
That's a total of 8 characters.. Yay :D

However, according to actual gameplay footage we also have 6 additional characters:
Ken, Cammy, R.Mika, M.Bison, Vega, Birdie

Looking thru their https://streetfighter.com/characters/ webpage we can see also the following 13 characters:
Nash, Necalli, Karin, Zangief, Dhalsim, F.A.N.G, Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, Urien, Ed

Also from what I can see there Abigail has the best stats. 5 in power, 5 in health, 5 in range, 4 in technique, 1 in mobility. Mobility didn't matter much in newer Street Fighters afaik.

According to screenshot of character select screen there's 27 different characters (same number if we sum the above characters) to choose from which is actually a pretty big rooster.

There's also some Punk-guy, but he's appearing in a bonus stage, so I don't think he's a playable character.

also one guy pointed this out:
"ALL NEW MODES AND GAMEPLAY FEATURES WILL BE AVAILABLE AS FREE UPDATES FOR EXISTING STREET FIGHTER V OWNERS"
This does NOT include the characters. Which is really shitty because buying AE is cheaper then buying the season passes

Finally! This is the game Capcom should have been launched! Although is a bit late now but glad to see this game getting new modes and improvements in mechanics. And giving the arcade edition as "free update" for people who bought SFV is good for the loyal SFV fanbase.

I've not looked into it too much previously...anyone know if SFV was review-bombed on Steam or if it's really that bad? It's sitting at around 52% in overall and recent. IMO seems like Capcom has long since peaked, given the consensus is that MvC3 is quite a bit better than MvC:I.

It's a good game and has the benefit of crossplay with PS4. The main problem is the lack of single player content and the connection issues which improved a bit. Basically, a good but unpolished game.

Okay... So what's this yapping about "exclusively for the PlayStation 4computer entertainment system and Windows PC" then?

Well, unless you would buy an arcade machine, it still an exclusive release.

And by the way, arcade releases are never taken in consideration when someone talks about exclusives.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Kinda the worst i seen of capcom in ages. How can you even release a game with no arcade mode, is the basics of every fighting game. Second, fight money is handled like in my opinion, all poorly. I see the idea is you can earn characters by buying them with ingame currency, but what the hell happened to just Completing a difficult OFFLINE challenge to unlock them? In marvel vs capcom 2, you earn secret points to unlock more content, even there it was tedious cause more than half the characters was locked away and you needed lots for like a few. But least it wasn't as bad, in this game, you earn fight money by doing combo challenges, story modes, and survival modes. But the best way is probably winning online matches RANKED matches. Even if you plan to never do that, you can squeeze what money the game itself offers while offline, but once you squeeze as much as the game allows, your only other options are to go to online ranked and win against the most competitive players in the world (Like California) or complete some weekly challenges that offer less points than the offline ones. You will still find yourself spending either every week playing for the weekly agenda or actually spending money, is either that or try to win 2 of 3 rank matches. O_O

They probably did this fight money system for purposes like this. Now when they update the game or do something like this which is (AGAIN) people don't have to go out and buy a upgrade cause they already have it. Notice how it says "characters only" You still don't get any of the previously released premium content right? You know the stuff that CANNOT BE PURCHASED WITH FIGHT MONEY!? Nope, still got to use real cash to get it, and what about the timed seasonal themed content like the halloween and christmas stuff? I paid $20 for this game, hard not to with all the sales they keep having for %50. Usually if a game goes on sale for that percent and often, can mean one of 2 things. Bad sales, or bad game. I dunno which one it is but it could have been a bit more like Guilty Gear Xrd with the way their in game currency is. I mean even though most people would use it to avoid paying money for characters, they still have content that is DLC purchase only, so there is still someone who would buy it cause they want everything. Yeah i know, reading this makes me sound pretty cheap right? Just saying the fight money could have been put to better use than the way it is now.

Well, you can still earn FM without playing online matches, but I really don't see a problem with it, as it's still a fighting game.

And for the "Cash Only" content, I really don't get all the complaint as every other fighting game in the market have it's share, and some are really worse than this (like Dead or Alive and/or BlazBlue/Guilty Gear for example).

TBH Capcom is handling the Arcade Edition update way better than Arc System did with Revelator Rev.2.

I'm never not going to be angry about that. They had it on sale on PSN for PS4 the other day - $20 (full Rev 1+2, all DLC). For PS3... no sale, it's still $68 if you want Rev 1+2 with just the characters DLC.

IIRC, it was U$27,99. A few time before this, they had the vanilla Revelator on sale (something around U$5) and I remember that the Rev 2 deal was a little bit more expensive than the Revelator + upgrade.

I bought it and the Rev 2 upgrade without thinking, only to be pissed when I realized that it doesn't include the DLC characters...

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.
