What's the best way and fastest to get all my old pokemon from each gen(from a cart)
Gen 1-> ?
Gen 2 -> ?
Gen 3 -> move to gen 4
Gen 4 -> move to gen 5

If you have CFW installed, you can just use PKHex to import and export Pokémon from different generations.

Gen 1 and 2 Pokémon can be exported and imported to Gen 3+ by following this guide: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ILhyYIjArYLimeWEUJvSa0BsCnB5k706MWN2Pa7fA9c/edit.

It's a few years old so there will be slight alterations in the methods and such, but the process is pretty much still the same. Cartridge saves can also be extracted/injected with a BennVenn Joey or a J.Rodrigo GB Cart Flasher, which are currently cheaper than the methods used in the guide

EDIT: The J.Rodrigo GB Cart Flasher does not support GBA carts as far as I'm aware, only GB/GBC. I think the Joey supports GB/GBC/GBA.

All of them are on cartridge (all gens) , so I should be extracing my save files right?

I have a NDS flashcart and CFW 3DS does that help?
For Gen 4-7 a 3DS with CFW is enough to extract the saves and import them using the retail cartridges.
Gen 1-2 as posted above, you'll need some 3rd party hardware, as well as a GB/GBC and a PC to extract the saves.
*Gen 3* - There is no way to trade from Gen 1-2>3. But the Gen 3 saves, you'd need a regular DS with the GBA slot so you can "PalPark" your pokemon from Gen 3 to Gen 4.
Gen 4 to Gen 5, you need two consoles (unless you use 3rd part hardware like the NDS adapter Plus) so you can use the Poke Transfer lab to get Pokemon from Gen 4 to Gen 5.
Gen 5 to Gen 6 you just use the Poke Transporter app from eShop to transfer them to the Pokemon bank.

If you manage to extract your saves, you can also use PKHeX to transfer the pokemon between generations (except Gen 1-2>3 or Gen 2>Gen 7) instead of using the "official" methods.

As mentioned in the guide I linked in my post, you can extract and import Pokémon from gen 1/2 to gen 3+ via PKHex, although the properties of the Pokémon will need tinkering to make it legitimate and such (I think IV/EVs are automatically converted to make the Pokémon compatible with gen 3 and up).

But as for conventional methods of trading, you're correct, it's not possible

You ever tried? It 100% gives you an error message and @Kaphotics himself said it's not supported. It literally says "Cannot convert pk2 to pk3" and the same goes for trying to import a Gen 2 pokemon into ANY generation other than Gen 2.

The ONLY way to do it that's been widely known is using PokeGen to "copy" the data from a gen 2 pokemon and create a new Gen 3 .PKM and paste the data, then you can trade it over, though the data is still not correct.

Not to mention even doing it that way with PokeGen automatically gives the Pokemon a Gen 3 met location that makes it illegal regarding it's PID anyway; since these are directly related to the PID/Nature/IVs.

Show me a video where you can transfer Gen 2 to another gen using PKHeX without just copying the data and genning a new pokemon from scratch......

EDIT: Go to ProjectPokemon and you'll see where Kaphotics said himself that Gen 2 conversions will not be supported until official support. I highly doubt the dev would say it's not supported if it is; he would know better.

Whoops, I'll be 100% honest, I wasn't aware of all that :huh: I've only tried the process once with the copy-paste method, and that was about a year ago. My apologies for spreading incorrect information!

You can even use a GBA-Gamecube Link cable to backup saves thanks to Fix94
