Looking for everyone's response to rpgs (or adventure games like Zelda) with the best stories. The only RPG I have played on 3ds so far Is fantasy life, which has a decent story and a good sense of humor.

Personally I prefer strategy-tactical RPGs or action rpgs because I find traditional ones to be boring and make me fall asleep, but this thread Is for everyone so just give some input

On the 3DS my favourite has to be Majora's Mask. The story lacks depth but is enough to draw me in and the side-quests are interesting. With that said this is probably just nostalgia talking.

I don't consider Zelda an RPG but an actionRPG if that matters so that's out or I'd throw in Ocarina as the others meh, especially that wretched majora's mask. I know neither are original in the least bit really but Tales of the Abyss and Xenoblade I had the most fun with, and Pokemon X/Y (I had the red one) was pretty good until I got bored and life ate up too much time to commit further into it. There's that upcoming RPG next year that's a sequel I guess to that Legends RPG that looks like it could be solid. Also Shin Megami Tensei IV was never my type of game but I put some serious time on that too.

You might like the tactical SMT: Devil Survivor games. It's a little hard to get into if you've never played before, unlike FE, there are sim elements and other surprises. There are also a good number of other T/S-RPGs from third-parties, like Mercenary Saga 2/3. If the graphics of those games and playstyles don't hold your attention, Stella Glow is decent.

Tales of the Abyss had a pretty decent story, and I'll definitely note that it had one of my favorite character growths I've seen in an RPG. This game, on the PS2, is what actually got me into the Tales series.

For me it is undoubtedly Radiant Historia. Yes it is actually a NDS title but the remake is coming soon to 3DS. Can't wait to play it again.

Wanting to try that one. Is it good? I don't play RPG's that much. Only if they involve some sort of real time action.

I hate waiting for just one simple action, specially in games.

Try Radian Historia and The world ends with you. The second one will make you feel stuff you didn't even know you had!

radiant historia was a good rpg, though it also had a whole lot of repeating past scenes as a gameplay mechanic, so you might end up annoyed by that. its definitely one of those games i never managed to replay for that reason.

devil survivor and shin megami 4 and 4:apocalypse are pretty nice. the soon to be remade strange journey was also kinda interesting on ds, though they're also shin megami games and that isn't everyones cup of tea either.

if you liked fantasy life enough, ever oasis should suit you.
and of course, for action rpgs, theres always monster hunter and on n3ds, xenoblade chronicles.

i hear that etrian oddysey games do have pretty decent stories, however, story segments are disturbed by super long dungeon exploring sequences.

bravely default is a nice callback to the early nes and snes final fantasy games, with a lot of meta commentary to rpgs and such. unfortunately, a little repetitive at the end (as you have the option to literally repeat large portions of the story with small changes towards the end)

dragon quest 7 and 8 are great, though they come with the typical issues of dragon quest games, dumb menu and overall story elements that just repeat from previous games.

for tactics, of course there's fire emblem and potentially project x-zone

the thing with all of these games is, many of them have some issue or another thats adored by some and hated by others.

I think, Fire emblem Echoes offers one of the best FE for this generation. Unlike awakening or fates, this is not a waifu/husbando simulator. I am so happy they still release such a quality game. the VAs are great too, and it supports multi languages, perfect to learn european languages

bravely default is very good story wise, the characters are very lovable and the worlds are so immersive with beautiful artwork/artstyle and great music accompanying it. Tbh I teared up after the opening cutscene haha. And as others have said it does get a bit repetetive nearing the endgame but honestly it didnt bother me that much, it was a lazy way of extending the gameplay hours but man oh man the climax of this game is so good. I tried playing Bravely Second but the music really wasnt as good as the first one (they had a different sound director I think?) will get around to finishing one day but as of now I'll just recommend Bravely Default

I'm going to have to recommend playing TWEWY on mobile. The dual screen mechanic in the DS original while unique, isn't practical. You just can't control both characters at once and having the top screen on auto means your health will gradually dwindle throughout the battle.

On top of that, its HD on mobile.

btw, I have cfw b9s, luma and a ds flashcart. every ds game mentioned I already have,, but these kinds of games last awhile. I also have: stella glow, both mercenary games, ever oasis, mh generations, devil survivor 1, sorry only got a 32 gb sd card in there at the moment lol. but eventually ill get to them. well this thread is for everyone though so gonna add that in again.

I will mention, castlevania order of ecclesia. most metroidvania games have awesome gameplay, but really crappy stories a 12 yr old would think was stupid,, but not this one. unfortunately, I got sick of the grinding, and used a cheat and obtained every item in the game,, well,, it then opened up every area to me before I was ready, all the side quests were gone, and all the bosses were gone. really wished I could've seen the rest of the story, which I was almost done with btw, but ya know. so let that be a lesson to you all,, don't GIVE YOURSELF EVERY ITEM IN THE GAME lol. one day, sure ill get back to it,, but until then, ill play something new.
