Ok, so I'm new to this IPS vs TN displays... I have a 3DS with IPS on top, and TN on bottom, and recently I got another one with dual TNs... Previously I've seen videos about this and thought, "damn, what a difference". Than I got one with dual TNs... and I was surprised.
To know if I had a TN display I had to do the test of tilting the console to unnatural viewing angles to check what I got. I mean, I didn't notice anything bad with it.
The 3D effect looked great on both consoles.
Maybe I was lucky and got well calibrated displays? :/ Maybe pictures exacerbate the "problem"?

They have varience, the best TN is better than the worst IPS. But IPS is better on average.

I got an N3DS from japan and did a region change to it. Its a white model, since they dont make those for America. When I use 3DSident, it says i have a (US) N3DS XL Red
Screens: Upper IPS Lower IPS

I dont know if its lying to me D:

It's not lying to you.
Also, red isn't referring to your 3DS's colour. It refers to model's code name, i.e N3DS XL = Red. Another example would be O3DS = CTR

Maybe is not accurate, maybe I have the small chance my N3DSXL have a IPS. Lol

It is accurate, it uses the same function to grab the screen vendors that ctraging uses.

"To be clear, many of these issues have been improved upon, but due to the underlying science of LCD TN panels, cannot be completely resolved. In fact, many of these issues -- like uneven backlighting, motion blur, input lag, and dead/stuck pixels -- are inherent issues across all LCD panel types."

and

"TN panels do have the advantages of lower response times and higher refresh rates than other panel types/CRTs."

Not only that, but not all IPS displays are the same. I have an Apple monitor from 2011 that has an IPS display that is better than other, newer, cheaper IPS displays in an inexpensive laptop I own.

To top that all off... all LCD displays can't touch OLEDs for color vividness and accuracy. especially the blacks. So even IPS is like...whatever in terms of technology for technologies sake at this point.

The 3DS is worthwhile because of it's game library. I also have a Vita and a Switch. Both those consoles are superior in various ways, but I still use my 3DS more because of the games available for it. Have fun gaming y'all and don't freak out about hardware, in the long run it's not worth it.

To those of you who have the BLACK N3DSXL, do ANY of them have DUAL IPS ? If so, can you please give the first part of the serial and what region it is and what shop you got it from and where? Thanks.

Regards,

AG

I can add two more snes n3ds xl systems to the list. Both dual TN

QW1926
QW1294

That makes six total SNES edition n3ds xl systems that I've purchased and all six were dual TN. I don't think we're getting any IPS systems with this release :(

Doesn't the TN screen have less ghosting due to the lower response time, better battery life, and more detail due to the less saturated colors? It doesn't seem like the IPS is the universally superior screen that most claim it is.

I agree that IPS looks better than TN, but buying $1200 worth of 3ds systems just to find an IPS is just freakin' nuts.
You could buy a really nice laptop for that money -- with a guaranteed IPS screen even.
