How to install Retrix (Retroarch/Libretro port) for Xbox One

Prerequisite - Requires Dev mode to be activated so you can sideloadd apps. If you don't already have it you can find more information here. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-activate-dev-mode-your-xbox-one-console

Retrix(LibretroRT) is a massive project aimed at porting all libretro cores to UWP. It currently supports Nes,Snes,Sega Master System,Sega Game gear, Sega CD, sg 1000, Playstation, Gameboy, Gameboy advance, and many more to be ported soon. This guide will cover installing Retrix for your xbox one console.

[1.] Download ProjectPgeasus (If you already have ProjectPegasus this step doesn't apply)
https://github.com/wiired24/ProjectPegasus/raw/master/ProjectPegasusSetup.exe

[2.] Once Installed just open it up and select RetriX. Now just wait for it to download. All you have to do now is Sideload Retrix on to your Xbox One (If you don't know how, follow the full guide here https://github.com/wiired24/ProjectPegasus/blob/master/binaries/Installing APPX Packages.pdf )

[3.] Enjoy! :yayone:

Retrix brings with it support for local 2 player something we have not had until now. It also opens the floodgates to every single emulator that is currently inside the scope of the libretro project. You can see a full list here https://github.com/libretro

I had been sitting on releasing Retrix for quite a bit now but it has finally reached a point where it is stable enough for release. Credit goes to Albertofustonini for creating and maintaining the Retrix Project. Credit also goes to @kingtut for advocating for a Libretro/Retroarch port for Xbox One. You can follow current development on the official github page https://github.com/Aftnet/LibretroRT

It's fine i've just been telling everyone because not everyone is aware that we have our own "Hacking and Homebrew" section now. As I said PS2 and GC are unlikely as Dev Mode only accesses 1 GB of Ram and 2 out of the 8 CPU Cores. Microsoft did that to protect the Xbox One from Piracy in case someone was to ever figure out a way to run retail games in dev mode.

There are new systems that get added to RetriX often so just keep checking back.

Believe i found a weird bug to this mod, when you plug in a wired controller to the Xbox One and try to play, the controller will not work on any controller, also i have a question about this mod, will stuff such as Atari 2600,5200,7800. Atari 8 Bit, Atari Jaguar, Atari Lynx be added, also i am interested in Coleco, Intelivision, MAME, Nintendo 64(read this is in the works), Virtual Boy, ZX Spectrum Commandore 64, and the Amiga, well actually let me put it like this please bring as much as the RetroPie to the Xbox One as you can, saves me time from plugging up my pi, as i believe Xbox One can handle all the Pi has to offer, i will push this to, I wouldn't mind Game Cube, Playstation 2 and Wii as well, i read yes you guys stated it is pushing, Saturn and Dreamcast a must, and 3DO as well.

One more question i notice the Nintendo DS is there, so i am wondering does it run pretty well, and how does the pointer work, i have not added no games for it yet, just the NES and SNES so far, as i want full library, i am huge emulation freak.

One more, is MS-DOS compatible or Windows 95?
the nds emulator runs pretty bad, i havent tried it enough to see if theres any game that is playable speed wise

FYI : goo.gl/MfCdLw

Seems like custom UWP apps will work like a charm now ;),
So I am not much of a hardware person, but how much more power is this? like can we hypothetically run pcsx2 emulator with it on xbox one if it was ported as uwp

well the specs for pcsx 2 is

Minimum (most games will be unplayable slow)

  • Windows/Linux OS
  • CPU: Any that supports SSE2 (Pentium 4 and up, Athlon64 and up)
  • GPU: Any that supports Pixel Shader model 2.0, except Nvidia FX series (broken SM2.0, too slow anyway)
  • 512MB RAM (note that Windows Vista needs at least 2GB to run reliably)
Recommended

  • Windows Vista / Windows 7 (32bit or 64bit) with the latest DirectX
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.2 GHz or better OR i3/i5/i7 @ 2,8 GHz or better OR AMD Phenom II @ 3,2 GHz or better
  • GPU: 8800gt or better (for Direct3D10 support)
  • RAM: 1GB on Linux/Windows XP, 2GB or more on Vista / Windows 7

will be getting an xbx1x at launch, question i have is that does this take advantage of the xbx1 hardware or is it just a generic pc port.

does it also allow you to run the games at full screen rather than boxed.

The best person to answer those questions would be @Absestos himself. I don't currently believe you can run games in RetriX in a 16:9 Full screen mode. I'm pretty sure it's standard 4:3 ratio. I usually just switch my TV Mode to widescreen for the 16:9 resolution when I wanna have fullscreen. As far as your other question goes it's a port to UWP. Meaning RetriX runs on Xbox One, PC, Windows Phone etc.

Microsoft hasn't mentioned anything about developer mode getting any Xbox One X enhancements. The resource increase is coming for all system models, and since they will want applications to be fully backwards compatible I doubt there will be any X only enhancements.

That said the new freedom coming in the fall update is a big step up from what is there now.

what i mean is that its an emulator, emulators come with resolution and graphic enhancements. so emulators could have higher settings for XBX1X systems, it doesnt require a whole new emulator because its a selection option as it is with pcs.

but what i actually mean is, is this just a generic pc port with basic graphic plugins or does it take advantage of the consoles hardware to have smoother/higher textures.

and id say its likely dev mode will also be on xbx1x, the system itself is no different, its just a hardware upgrade to run same games in 4k
