As some of you may know, the Wii version of Okami was released in Japan a few months after it came out in the West, which gave the team some extra time to make a lot of improvements to it (specifically the controls and restoring the original credits sequence from the PS2 original). Now as far as I'm aware the Japanese version doesn't have English text - if it did though, it would probably be my preferred version of the game. Is anyone else interested in the idea of either a) adding English text to the Japanese Wii version of Okami or b) finding some way to fold all the improvements from the Japanese version back into the Western releases? I have next to no programming knowledge, but if anyone were interested in pursuing this idea, I'd be glad to help any way I can.

Sounds neat, since we won't get it on the Switch... this may be our last "Hurrah!" for Okami.

Yeah, the announcement of the PS4/Xbone port is kind of why Okami's been on my brain lately. Those versions will be nice no doubt, but drawing without the pointer just feels wrong to me.

I had no idea how to really go about this and just randomly tried to extract the ISO for the game (to get access to the text files) to no avail... I'll look into brainslug/riivolution though.

what is the difference between those?

1. The credits sequence from the PS2 version that was deleted in the Western Wii port has been restored for the Japanese version.
2. The pointer is more accurate than before, you can now use the Cut technique without having to hold Z for example.
3. The most important change: you don't need to waggle to Attack anymore, it's now mapped to the A button. Dodge has been moved to shaking the Wii remote, which should also be more accurate than the Nunchuk method.

Well to be fair, we have a touch screen to draw with now on the Switch.

If Capcom decide to do a Switch version after all, then ideally you'd use the touchscreen for drawing in handheld mode and the right Joycon's Gyro in docked mode. At least that's how I'd do it.
