Nintendo Increases SNES Classic Inventory, NES Classic Returning to Stores

SNES_Mini_Box.jpg

The NES Classic was a monumental success when it released last year. Originally it was a "limited edition" product, and the number manufactured was relatively low. Scalpers tore into them, sometimes selling them for over $500 on various auctions sites as they were sold out everywhere. Well, those unlucky few who didn't manage to nab a NES Classic can rejoice; Nintendo is manufacturing and shipping more NES Classic's to stores in 2018!

Along with this news, Nintendo also announced that the inventory for the SNES Classic is also being increased to help avoid the same scalping situation as last year.

Due to incredible demand for the upcoming Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, Nintendo plans to ship the retro-inspired product into 2018. Originally, shipments were announced to cease at the end of this calendar year.
...
Next summer, Nintendo will also bring back the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system with new shipments. More information about the timing of the return of NES Classic Edition will be announced in the future.

That's easy for you to say :(

The Snes emulation on the Wii U sucks balls, because it can't even emulate Super FX games, is blurry, dark/drab, bad aspect ratio, no pixel perfect mode, the list goes on. Do people seriously think the Wii U Snes emulation is better than the Snes Classic? Ha ha ha ha ha, that's a joke, right?

I never said anything about the WiiU o>O

Alright. I was just wondering about that. Might still stick to Higan for me, though; emulation is just easier for me.

To each their own *shrug*. Only thing I hate about Higan is you need to get the BIOS files for the special chips, seems convoluted as hell.

I think I need a break, I'm about to break down.

Sorry about that. Just remember, just because we don't agree with your opinion doesn't mean we think you're an idiot. You backed up your opinion, and I conceded ground; thoughtful discussion is a good thing. No need to break down.

That's not the reason why, it's complicated.

No it was not, Nintendo never mentioned or hinted that the Nes classic was supposed to be a limited edition product, they advertised it and released it as a regular product, then everyone got angry that major retailers were barely getting 6 or so units per store to sell...

Nintendo representatives then made several about how they were producing more and expecr more and more shipemnts because somehow for the 100th time "demand was higher then expected"... And then randomly threw a "Oh yeah, those were a special edition by the way and we aren't manufacturing more"...

Can you please rectify that? Firsr sentence on the article and yoy got your facts wrong already... Not trying to sound mad or anything but this has been a whole joke on their end now by announcing that they will cretate more so they can have hordes of peolple to run to gamestop on their next shipments so they "don't miss out again"...

That "crying" is something only Nintendo can cause... and only to those that (as myself) enjoy playing those oldies that keep being more fun than nowadays "ultra-mega-super-Hi-Res games" that can't provoke that feeling from old times.

Most developers and game editors have forgotten what is the meaning of G-A-M-E and F-U-N and have focused on over-"remastering" the very same game again and again on those so-called high-end consoles.
You glorify Nintendo because they release the very same games over and over again be it as Virtual Console release or as Virtual Console + Hardware (which is the very nature of this mini/classic systems) and most likely you also throw money onto it.
At the same time you dislike that "most developers and game editors" focus on remastering the same games over and over again.
I really like that Nintendo conservs the great games of there former consoles with giving us access to play them on there contemporary systems, but somehow your two points don't go well with each other.
Other companies see how people buy old Nintendo games like mad and sometimes even for every of there Nintendo consoles new.
Of course other companies want to do the same with there games, problem here is that there games most often aren't sprite based but 3D games which in the eyes of many need remasters instead of just plain emulation. To be fair some companies (SquareEnix...) think they even have to remaster there beautiful 2D games as ugly smartphone-3D games... Beside that even Nintendo released some "totaly needed" remasters. How could anyone ever play Windwaker without a remaster

I think with the WiiU game the New Super Mario Bros. series finally reached (almost) the quality of Super Mario World again. Not that the previous entries in the New-series where bad, but they clearly hadn't reached the quality of SMW. If they just had made a different soundtrack for it... New Super Mario Bros. U is new not remaster game that is fun to play btw ;)

You're nit picking. The device was discontinued after a whole 5 months of being in production, which would by definition be considered a "limited edition" release. Just because they didn't market it as such doesn't mean it can't be considered a limited edition product. They even mentioned in a press release about the cancellation that it was never meant to be a long-term platform.

I stand by my statement.

Take what I say however you like. The crying is annoying. I see and hear it everywhere.

We always take everything as we want/like. But that doesn't mean we are always right nor wrong. A tree always makes a big sound when it falls to the ground even if there's no one to hear it.

This is funny how nintendo re-release their classic product.
I can't wait to see N64.
For few reason, like how they will emulate it, but also to get one because I always loved N64 especially few game like F-zero X, Golden Eye, Jetforce geminy :)
Any know if there is a rumor or anything about it ?

As ever I have no problem with scalpers and it is a long solved problem ( http://gbatemp.net/threads/on-scalping.462741/ ). Not to mention there are far far better means by which to play these games.

In all honesty though, this is definitely a good thing. It means the patient ones among us can wait for the later wave and pick one up if we're quick-fingered enough.
Despite knowing what you meant there I still choose to read quick fingers as in five fingered discount, fitting on this site too.

Because Nintendo makes a shitload of money from scalpers
How does Nintendo make any more from scalpers compared to them otherwise selling out to gamers what will love and cherish it for years to come? It is not like Nintendo gets a cut. Unless it is some kind of "we will get more interest next time" and... there are better business strategies out there.

If you want to speed run, only real console hardware and/or official emulation solutions are permitted.
That surely depends upon what rule set you go in for (assuming it has not changed in the last 7 or so months it is a rather fractured community or bunch of communities, and that is before the tool assisted types get a look in). Also maybe speedrun rule set makers could pull the stick out of their arses.

The N64 was not a success to the extent of the SNES and NES, you struggle to emulate it on cheap commodity hardware (though with their sub par efforts for the NES and if the power of ARM keeps going up I could see it eventually), many of the games look and play like arse compared to games of today and they don't have quite the same rights to a lot of the games as they did from their iron fisted eras (I doubt they will get Microsoft to release the Rare catalogue, especially as Microsoft already sell the Rare collection, Goldeneye is trapped in film rights hel and a handful of others have already been remade). I am not expecting one any time soon.

Because you have to read everything i said. Name branding increase by selling out instantly wich makes them a ton of money on other products they sell plus all the units they sell.[/QUOTE]

I did, did not appear relevant to my point though.

That would be the sort of claim you really want to back with numbers either for them or in a similar position. If there was a NES nano on the shelves that got a boost from "oh well, can't get a classic, might as well get that" or even the wii u or 3ds I guess it would have been at the time got a bump. There are better strategies too, especially if your product is a $10 ARM board in a basic injection moulded case.

It is a good strategy and people who buy Nintendo products aren't only die hard gamers. The most money Nintendo makes is from NON die hard gamers like moms, dads, kids, older people with nostalgia reasons. It is the perfect strategy for that and it did increase their sales because of that. The world doesn't revolve around die hard gamers. The increase of name branding by selling out boosted sales in that market just like Nintendo back in the day boosted sales in that market with the Wii.

Yeah I figured that was your logic, I agree Nintendo no longer really have what it takes to appeal to those that really really like games (or at least those which sort of like them are a good market to have), and there have certainly been many fads in the past where people buy because people are buying, however I am not seeing that the thing sold out because it got hard to find/there was a little scalper induced buzz and had it not then they would be sitting on the shelves like so many wii u.

I wouldn't got that far. Yes, Nintendo does like to appeal to a more casual audience, however, if they really were trying to just go off the casual market, they wouldn't be doing stuff like releasing Metroid Prime 4 (a game that doesn't have that much recognition among non-core gamers, at least, not to the extent that Mario and Zelda do).

The Switch is intended for a more casual audience, yes, but that doesn't mean that their audience isn't fairly hard-core. The reason the Wii U failed in the first place is because it was marketed towards a casual/child-friendly audience. The Switch has remnants of that, but it's also targeting gamers who like games that are a bit more involved (i.e. BOTW, XC2, Disgaea 5, etc.). The Switch is designed for people who were/are hardcore gamers, but also have a job and stuff like that; they can take their Switch with them and play on the train, bus, plane, what have you. Just because they have jobs and responsibilities does not mean they aren't hard-core gamers, and to think the two are mutually-exclusive is ridiculous.

Personally, while I just use my Gaming Laptop as my portable device of choice, I can understand the Switch and its target audience. Train commutes get boring after a while.

The inital Switch trailer featured a The Elder Scrolls game. This games are clearly targeted towards core gamers, they may aren't as hard as e.g. the Dark Souls games but they clearly belong into every core gamers game canon (if someone ever will create such a canon :D).

I wanted the NES classic when it came out then felt burned by the scalpers...not a big deal since you get used to it if your into shooting .22 calibers. A reference to the shortage and hoarding of said ammunition. So I figured I would wait and see if the prices would come down on the mini but nope Nintendo decides to announce they are stopping production..its was a big middle finger to fans. That made up my mind to find something else to buy. Now back to this thread and them announcing a re release of the console...wtf?! seriously? I love my Nintendo products but will be steering clear of these.
