In honesty looking at your antics make me ashamed of claiming the mantle of hacker as these days, thanks to the corrosive influence of social media and the need for people to be needed means that the guy who holds the keys to kingdom runs around telling without showing a damn thing for "reasons". Y'all put a black eye on the game acting like this as in my day (14.4k tone in ya ear) we moved in silence and shared when ready instead of trying to hype our lives into the blockbuster event of the season by whipping entitled leeches into a frenzy.

If this is the modern scene I'm glad I dipped out around the OG Xbox as that was the last scene that delivered on all counts thanks to people of all skill levels pitching in without a thought to egos and online clout.

Coincidentally it was also the last platform supported by folks of my generation as hacking is a young mans game so with that in mind take a good, hard look at yourself and ask why you go on as you do and what you hope to gain as epeens are momentary but being lame is for life.

Look at old platforms and devs ranging from homebrew, apps to emulators and you'll see that nothing since the 00s has come close and it's all solely due to your actions as a timely exploit equals enthusiastic development and this is a sorry state of affairs given the current platforms have more power than the previous generations combined and yet it languishes for the aforementioned "reasons" which in reality means stagnation and no actualisation of potential ala wii u which could have been awesome if it weren't for the delays that caused all Dev interest to wane. Smarten up kids, there's more to life than social media bragging rights would lead you to believe and all that time you've spent sitting on a framework to exploit a console is also the time you haven't actively developed your potential and progressed beyond your current limitations in order to arrive at a point of self actualisation.

What's the point in sitting on exploits till a platform is dead when past experience shows that in the moment is the best time to act as the potential audience and thus talent pool is at its best and able to contribute to the hacks.

I know the people will hear what Im saying, the question is will you be too high on social medias influence to hear what I'm saying is to your benefits or not?

The reason to without on exploits is to not ruin online gameplay by cheaters.
And the prevention of piracy.

Not to mention the whole fiasco with Sony and geohot etc.

I can see how the whole online angle has changed since then but in honesty don't feel that that's the reason for the holding back, that all epeen. As for the second part anon publishing techniques are at an all time high to invisibly leak data to the techno sphere but that aforementioned epeen gets in the way as social media likes are craved.

I don't blame them if they hold out cause of cheaters and pirate kiddies.
But eh, PS scene is dramatic anyway, I don't really keep track of it cause it that.

In many ways it's a sign of the times as the gaming field was so much smaller 10, 15, 20 years ago, ergo more signal to noise ratio now but the key point is how those that sit on exploits choke potential excellence from ever taking form or being expressed. That would be all good if "private" meant just that and not epeen waving with no resolution. In terms of the pure power of a modern console and the sheer talent (that has by default exponentially increased along with user base) we, collectivity, miss out on much more than a few cheaters and some wares.

Aye, I do agree, however, the majority of the end users will be cheaters and pirates.
Best part of console hacking to me is that I can take backups of savegames and other data along with the execution of debug features and tools but I can live without them.
Although the backup of savegames will be.. rather limited then..

To me it's always been about enulation and the repurposing of commercial hardware in that order. The buzz of making a machine dance to your tune is immense and we have some really talented devs that have knocked it out of the park again and again in my experience and it is sad to see this potential not being nurtured and developed as it was way back when as that was the field where stars were born.

Deffo.
Especially with the machines we got now.
Fortunately for them, there are ways to sign up for development at home programs which allow them to publish their games in the console's e-stores.
But yeh, that's games only pretty much.

I love to know about how a console boots and what's loaded every time etc.
But lately.. that's been sliding as well.

Yup. In my experience reverse engineering and swimming against the tide have always been the keys to extracting the true potential and performance of a system as you don't know the "rules" not what you can't break and that's the state that created miracles and it's that buzz I want the modern gen to experience as it's an amazing feeling. Yet without the basics of a ground floor entery point that ain't happening, hence this open letter.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

With the ps4s architecture and all it infers and refers to we could be potentially looking at the "one system that rules them all" in terms of emulation and yet were almost at the end of its life cycle and bar a few people sitting in their mamas basements polishing epeens as they prepare vapourware tweets we ain't seeing a damn thing. As I've suggested before a "pay for play" style pot slash financial incentive may be just what the doctor ordered as I'd happily put my money where my mouth is if it prompted the talkers to deliver on their words and all that would entail

That makes you sound like one of those "entitled leeches". Chose your words wisely, if you want to be taken seriously.

Then take it as a joke for all I care. I know what I've done for the scene. The word was well chosen and perfectly apt at describing the motivations and scenario.

I empathize with you however I don't think telling a bunch of bitches to not be bitches is going to make them not be bitches.

They also don't frequent this forum.

Forward this message to them via social media then please so they can read and we get their side, hence open letter.

I've came to the conclusion we aren't going to see any meaningful ps4 hack released whilst its still a current platform.

Reason being is its evident from the teasing and SOONing that a hack is viable and that there are multiple points of access being worked on but the fact that the primary people working on the hack are social media addicts and have their personal lives and real idenities mixed up with their hacking tweets shows they have no intention of protecting themselves or anonymising who they are.

Put it together and it's quite obvious as after the whole geo escapade you'd have to be a fool to deliver on your promise with such a high profile.

Expect your SOONing to be fulfilled once the ps5 drops and then you can happily quote this post as a premonition of what's to come.

*goes and upgrades to the latest fw in order to enjoy the console as it should be*

@replicashooter

Yes you are right, some of them are bragging some of them are lying, but does it matter?
I read some of your comments, especially this open letter and for me it seems you think they owe us something, but they don't.
You are glad you left the scene, because of these pretentious kiddies?
Yes there are some as I said before but there are also a lot of people who really try to hack this console and are not able to do it, maybe it's harder as they think, as you think?
You could join the "scene" again and try it with your old homies(?) from the past, so you could proof yourself.
Else you are the same as these people, just bragging in another form.
(Sorry for my bad english)

Not at all my friend, your English is great. Now onto your points:

What I dislike about this modern twist in the scene is that the SOONing is a fairly recent invention, as is the seemingly mandatory "buy 2 machines, one to play and one to stash if you wants haxx" along with the general stagnation that has proliferated the game in the past 15 years where not one machine has came anywhere near its homebrew potential thanks to the antics of a few undoubtedly skilled yet evidently insecure hackers.

Its not to do with owing anyone anything, even if they go out of their way to fuel the SOON hype which in turn does mean they owe people because if they'd stayed silent and flew straight no one would know, no one would care. See what I'm saying?

Hacking wise the game has became a heck of a lot easier thanks to common elements like browser exploits, open source code elements etc.. compared to how it was back in the day. I've been involved in this since the 8 bit days and frankly this is all a young mans game as it simply stops appealing once you get to a certain point and all you seek is simplicity in life in all of its facets, the open letter was simply intended to bitch slap those engaged in this foolishness in order to present a moment of clarity - nothing more, nothing less.

Mark my words though - If this is, as it seems to be, a mark of things to come then it truly is sad for reasons you probably would never even comprehend. Either way I'm glad that I got to experience all of this and the talent involved during the times before social media. BTW feel free to take a read of this book by foo, its great and hopefully may just inspire some new kids on the block to look under the hood of their toys and see what makes them tick and better yet, how to get them to tock ;)

I follow a lot of hackers and devs on Twitter and I see a lot of hype of development on the ps4. From claims of private CFW to admitting piracy has been possible on devkits for quite a while now and saying it's not all that great due to the smallish library of worthwhile games.

If released it would open up tons of possibilities for the console and actually make me want to use the damn thing. I mean the scene gives users options that Sony just will never give us. I spend more time modding my consoles and customizing it the way I want than I do for gaming. And that's a beautiful thing.

Sure piracy is a problem but not every end user is guilty of this. A majority yes but not all. I know my username gives it away but I like to try games before I buy them. I've been burned far too many times. But I'm more looking forward to small things like save data backups that I can restore to any of my consoles without having to make sure they're all activated to the same account. Especially since Sony only let's you have so many devices activated at once which is annoying as all hell.

That and fan translations and rom hacks is what I love the most about the scene. Also something like an ftp app is huge for me so I can backup my saves to my phone without having to get up and use a pc. And multiple save slots typical with save data homebrews is very handy indeed. Save states is another favorite of mine as well. Not to mention screenshots without watermarks like rereprep gave us on the vita. Or Screenie for high quality screenshots on the vita as well.

But Sony's lawyers aint no joke so if I was a dev I probably wouldn't want to release as well. And if they want to wait until an exploit is patched before it is released then that's kinda their choice to make. It's their work, time, effort, and talent so they're free to do whatever they want with it including reporting it to sony for money. I love the scene so I pray for a release but we're not entitled to it.

Just my thoughts. I see your point but figured I'd explain my take on it
