The controversial 3D remake of a classic Super Nintendo title, Secret of Mana, just got a 10 minute trailer at PAX West, showcasing gameplay footage from the start of the game, with included voice acting. Square Enix notes that this is an early build of the game, which is set to fully release (digital only), for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Steam/PC on February 15, 2018.

Wonder if the ore to upgrade weapons is going to be ( Pay for ) DLC.

Or, the Flammie drum is going to have 5 uses, and you have to ( pay ) to repair it.

the character movement is a little weird. maybe it's due to bad framerate, or just due to early build. I hope it will get better consistency, but I'm almost sure "this is an early build" doesn't mean they will rework the beginning of the game. it's probably the final design we just saw.

I'm still wanting to try it, though it's a little expansive for an old game :s

I'm sad they didn't take the opportunity to fix the combat system. The game already looked and sounded great, it was the gameplay that really needed updating.

Wonder if we will get the final fantasy 3 ds thing of "it is nice and all but I am used to a bit more refined".

Anyway local co-op is sweet and is probably going to be the only thing to really sell me on this.

I haven't been following it to deeply, what about this remake would make it controversial?
I'm pretty delighted that I get to play this game I played so many years ago in HD.

Also wow was that voiceover annoying.

I'm just going off what I've seen from other news outlets in response to this release. One of the announcement trailers had most dislikes than likes on YouTube initially.

I can kinda see some of the criticism (mostly the game not coming to Switch which is just a retarded move) but the game doesn't look THAT bad.

No, Yes, and also still back to only being able to carry 4 of an item before you just throw away anything else you pick up.

But, from what I saw, it looked like the player started out doing more damage than the original. Rabbites would usually need more than 1 hit, and would frequently dodge attacks until you leveled up. Would imagine this also means less need to grind on slimes at various points, while also not being limited to only 3 enemies on screen at a time.

A lack of a switch release is probably related to the complicated mess which 3rd party games have to go through to get Nintendo approval. Even with the lack of 3rd party titles being the reason why the WiiU was a fairly significant flop, Nintendo still hasn't learned from their past or shown enough interest in moving forward. Though, to be fair, they are doing well enough financially that they don't need to yet.

So... mixed bag.

The no Nintendo release is the only valid argument. Vita is a dead console and shouldn't have a release. The voice acting is irrelevant, and the graphics look fine. Just a bunch of nitpicking.

Anyway, that video quality was terrible, but the game is looking good. I'll buy on Steam if the release price is reasonable.
