I'm thinking MK8 tourney should be on Wii U. More people have Wii U and almost all the other games listed for the Switch tournament require skills, so it might be a very one-sided victory. Plus, you can already imagine the cheesy button-mash people will do to acquire a win, barring Spl2n. Would also like to see a teams match for SSB4 (WiiU).
If you're going to rule a game out because it requires a degree of skill, why bother with a tournament all together? Just throw everybody who wants to enter into a list and draw a number on random.org. Some people are better than other people at some games, it's just how it is.

I think it is safe to ignore the date the topic was made as it has most likely just been sitting in the staff section until it was frontpaged today.

I guess is a good point, why isn't Puyo Puyo tetris on the list? How bout Super bomberman R as well, Why not throw rocket league on there while you are at it, since it will be on switch too.

Though I do like ultra street fighter 2 on the list most of the "Hard core" people will complain about not being able to use a arcade fight stick for it. :P

If you are true hardcore, you hack some arcade fight stick together with a joycon and you make your own switch arcade fight stick.
It is just throwing some money, time, cabling, soldering and profit... that is, if you are true hardcore.

Nah, I'll just wait for this to become out of beta. Be way easier and worth it. :P

There are 2 nintendo switch arcade sticks being made, 1 wired for when the switch is connected to the dock for tv use, and a bluetooth arcade stick for when in portable mode. Plus there are newer adapters like the brooks converter so you can use xbox 360/ps3/xbox one/ps4 arcade sticks on nintendo switch.

This person is a Ken fighter with Akuma tendencies. Seriously, MK8 is a game that can utilize skill with a dose of random so everyone has a fair chance. These other games (barring Spl2n) require immense knowledge of the game for the fight to be fair on either side and thats just not too fair. If you think about it, SFII has been around for years, so someone who has been playing every SF, since SF has an advantage over someone who got into SF recently. Same with the other fighting games (which make up 3/5ths of the games for this tourney) which boils down to either that one user who does X cheese "combo"/button-mash and gets hated on or one user who demolishes everyone else just because they were bored on a Tuesday. Spl2n is a little more team-oriented, but imagine how mad most people get over "TFNG" who dies every single time, while you strategically plan your attacks, to lead to a collective failure. Anger and flame wars with "git gud, fkin newb." seem to appear in my crystal ball.

MK8 is balanced enough that even veterans can be dethroned, without extensive knowledge of the game, which is more inclusive to be worthy of a tourney.

You're going to look at it as whatever, so whatever. Ken fighter.

And people don't want to update. Maybe two tournaments could work out?

The solution to this would be to give notice. I mean if Thug gave people a month in advance or something, you could easily learn enough of a game like SFII to put up some sort of a good show. You'd still probably lose to a grand master, I agree, but hey ho, they've sunk hundreds of hours into the game. Such is life.

And regarding the people who haven't updated their Switch... Well, they know the cost of keeping their Switch on a low firmware. This post is regarding a Switch tournament, they can either update or not take part.

Ken fighter. I whole-heartedly think:
1. This isn't for money; go to EVO.
2. The amount of Switch tempers Vs Wii U tempers is around 20/80.
3. The tourney would move faster with MK8 than any other game.
4. More people would enjoy playing a game with less pressure.
5. You're a Ken fighter with Akuma tendencies who has been taking peoples quarters since SF Aplha 3.

Are you retarded? or just slow.
It's a Switch tournament. There's no real debate here. That's what it is. Don't like it? Make your own, or don't participate. It's that simple.
Also it might likely be for money, actually. Or some sort of prize. That's generally the way of things with GBAtemp events. A tangible prize tends to keep people interested and actually showing up for matches.

The tournament would move neither slower nor faster with MK8. I'm not sure why you think it would. Races in MK8 would take roughly the same amount of time as the other games, barring maybe splatoon matches taking a bit longer. All of them would be identical to organize.

What pressure? This isn't russian roulette. If you're stressed by a fun tournament then you should definitely not be participating. No one likes easily stressed, angry salt factories. You'll be doing people a favour.

Why do you keep making street fighter references no one understands except you and a very minuscule portion of people who are actually involved in the Street Fighter scene?
