Nintendo Ends Miiverse This November In Japan

img_0.jpg
Launched back in 2012 on the WiiU, Nintendo's social network is officially closing down this November 8 in Japan.

After shutting down, accessing Miiverse will have the following error codes 115-5004 for the Wii U and 015-5004 for the 3DS:

The over 70 Wii U games and over 20 Nintendo 3DS games that have Miiverse features in Japan will be left feeling empty after the service shuts down, as illustrated in Super Mario Bros. U image below:

No word if or when Miiverse will be affected in other regions. However, it shouldn't come as a surprise since the Nintendo Switch does not use Miiverse features. Time to move on, I guess.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, even if I think it's sad news. Personally I enjoyed it in SM 3D World, Affordable Space Adventures and the WiiU home screen.

Without spoiling anything, Affordable Space Adventures is an example of a game where the lack of it changes a lot of the experience. I don't know if there are any other great games affected like this.

Btw, before anyone freaks out, I heard that Super Mario Maker will retain its Miiverse features.

Then why not just create a Miiverse for Switch?
the two are entirely different things...... Miis are virtual characters since the Wii, Miiverse is a service that just so happens to include it in the name.
Nintendo said:
Will there be a similar service to replace Miiverse on Nintendo Switch?
- Currently Nintendo has no plans to implement any services to replace Miiverse, but the Nintendo Switch system includes features for connecting with Facebook and other social networking services.

They probably won't be doing that. Nintendo seems to think that online services should be run from an app on your phone, not the console itself. Did you see that abomination that Hori put out to enable live chat in multiplayer Switch games? Which idiot at Nintendo thought that was a good idea?

Nintendo are just showing just how out of touch they really are with how they design their online services.

I honestly think that Nintendo felt so slighted at the fact that hackers tore the 3DS's security to shreds that they decided "Hey, if we don't put any apps into the Switch OS, hackers won't be able to hack the Switch."

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I dont get why they didnt discontinue it earlier...

you can barely say anything without the mods there disabling your post
why didnt they just link up to facebook/twitter back in 2012? such a stupid decision...

Agreed. They are scared of people posting dick pics. Remember what happened to Flipnote?

If that's really the case then Nintendo needs a wake up call on security.

Well, no one. Hori may have an official licence to make prepherials, but it's not an official device.

The lack of integrated voice communication system is silly, however.

They should try harder to have a better social network. It was worst than xbox live and miiverse was released years later to it, why is it so hard for nintendo to just find the middle ground between the network for mature gamers to have flexible social interaction in games and "child block" environment? There is a reason why parental locks was invented and still focus too much on limiting people, probably to save themself from possible responsible backlash from law suits or something.

(Half way through i have no idea what i was saying)
