Secret of Mana to get 3D remake

Sony's Latin Facebook page managed to accidentally put up a listing for a remake of a classic SNES RPG, Secret of Mana. It was then quickly removed, though people had already gotten a chance to see. A few hours later, Square Enix has confirmed that a Secret of Mana remake is in the works, and will be a 3D remake of the 2D sprite-based original. Secret of Mana's remake will be out for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Steam/PC, on February 15, 2018. It will feature fully voiced characters (with options for either English or Japanese voice acting), a remixed soundtrack, and local multiplayer support. The PS4 and PC release will also feature online multiplayer, while the Vita version is local only.

Woooh! Loved the original, really looking forward to this, hope it does it justice. For some reason since it has been a while, the things I remember most are water overall, such as the element and water in the levels, and the combat. Woooh!

So probably something similar to the Adventure of Mana/Seiken Densetsu/Mystic Quest remake? Basically exactly the same game but with new graphics. That could work. I loved SoM so much back in the day but it hasn't really aged too well.

But it's really a joke this doesn't make Switch. I mean, come on, this was a Nintendo game in the first place. For what it's worth they'll probably port it to Android first :D

I have a PS4 and a PS TV, but I'm absolutely gutted that the game is limited to those consoles. For a start, the game will support 3 player multiplayer, which seems way more suited to the 3DS or the Nintendo Switch. My daughter and I have been playing the original recently on an emulator for Android, but to play together on our 3DS consoles would be amazing.

Oh God that looks fukkin horrific..... one of my fave games ever and from that snippet it's been completely butchered. Maybe it'll bring in new fans but I think I'll stick to the original.
And just to top it all off, pre-order bonus at the end of the video, fml...
EDIT: Just seen some actual in-game shots over on Eurogamer, looks far better than THAT trailer thankfully. Slightly more interested! :)

Maybe it's finally time for me to play this game. I tried it out briefly but never got hooked.

I thought it looked decent. I mean, the graphics look like the remake was made 10+ years ago, but they work well for a 3D remake of a 2D game. They look not unlike the FF3 and FF4 3D remakes.

It looks exactly like the Adventure of Mana remake they did a year ago or two. Same game 1:1 but in new engine.
I didn't really like the art style for Adventure of Mana. I'm on the fence about it for this remake, but it was such a great game that I will buy and play this anyway.

graphics are nice, but not too high-specs current gen. I guess it's just intended to look like that.
I find it cute and interesting.
We didn't see much, I have a good memory of that game I completed many times, and I'm curious to see what will be done.

I understand people would rage because .... they just like to rage against remake. Just go play the Snes version AGAIN if you don't like the remake. (I didn't like the look of characters in Android remake of FF6, I just won't play it, that's all)
I hope I'll like both.
I hope voices will be good.

WHERE IS CHRONO TRIGGER REMASTER! o_o
(Also that was a horrible trailer.)

I thought this was a 3DS game, "3D Remake" Got me, sure is 3D, but the snes game was 3D in a sense of not being a flat surfaced Left/right 2D game like Mario or something. But enough about my misunderstanding. Glad they decided to do something about this game instead of release a mobile game that look like a snes game coded in flash. Also they announced the seikon densetsu collection for nintendo switch, any idea if that will be translated and released internationally? First time the 3rd game gets a English official, heard hyped things about it. :)

Wonder since when people adapted this cheap chibi looking style that reminds me of final fantasy 4 on ds, as standard for a acceptable HD game in this generation. Sure it worked on systems with lower specs that bearly handles 3D graphics like Nintendo ds and psp, but ps4 is capable of lot more, just reminds me of world of final fantasy.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha

@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
