SNES Classic To Have Rewind Feature

snes classic.JPG

Now you can play with power, super power... and back again!

Another announcement from Nintendo at Gamescom today was the Rewind feature in the upcoming SNES Classic Edition. It lets players rewind their gameplay to retry tricky sections, pick up missed items or simply run through an area again to see if anything was missed.

However, the rewind time depends on the kind of game: Players can go back a few minutes in role-playing games such as Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, while action titles such as Super Mario World offer around 40 seconds, ideal for re-trying short segments of gameplay.

The system also comes with additional features like frames that can be wrapped around the on-screen display for each game and suspend points that allows you to save anytime, anywhere!

The enthusiasm level is so 1990's!

The SNES Classic Edition hits stores this September 29th.

Then Amazon supposedly sold out, same with Best Buy. What a bunch of bullshit, I signed up for their notification system, didn't work. I mean, yes, I have on from Amazon UK preordered, and I know people say they get their products to the US just fine, but still. I know that I can still get one from the UK if I ask around here. Ugh, Best Buy idiots.

Just in case that you don't know, I think the design is an important part for most people with this special hardware, the design of the European minis looks completly different from the NA models.

Yes, Lance Barr was responsible for the NA redesign when he worked for NOA back in the early 90's. His logic, according an interview, is he alleged it looked too "toy like". I call BS, I like the EU/JP design better.

Nintendo will have some explaining to do about Québec
and they better have a SNES Classic for the Québec market because right now
its illegal for sale because there's two games in English
Do games have to be translated these days? Last I saw the manuals/boxes had to be dual language but that was about it.

Yeah I went in store and it took 30 minutes to pre order one. Also I had to sell my soul to the devil and buy a bundle but it's worth the hassle and ultimately having to pass buying one due to scalpers

bundle?

I'm assuming gamestop do similar shit as the likes of game with limited run items, i.e selling 5 separate and then putting 50 with stupidly overprices "starter kits" which is crappy junk you find in a pound shop such as stylus's and screen protectors for an added £20 on top (although I cant quite see what crap they could bundle with these, maybe controller extension cables or something

They may know, but they will never admit that people use highly illegal unlicensed emulators, amateur games, or save backup tools

They know, admit, and encourage people buying their stuff, though

Yup, the exact same thing. Mine came with a prima book (I think it's the book that's getting launched the same day) and an extra blue controller (I was fine with that since I was going to have to get cable extensions anyways if I didn't get an extra controller with a longer cord). Still better paying a bit extra than paying $300 on eBay. I've looked at some of the listings and they're already in that range.

I love this feature :) are nintendo starting to finally 'get it' ?
the mobile games, the switch, the retro consoles, the 3DS retro designs, etc.
they've been making a lot of good marketing decisions in the past couple years :) give the people what they want
If you call not restocking or producing enough NES classics a good marketing decision, sure.

Yeah, I couldn't get one on the site because they can't maintain a site worth garbage. So I still have mine on Amazon, and I plan on possibly getting a second one for someone's Christmas present, heh.

Lol, it was down for around 5 hours. Dirty scalper! Just kidding. Trying to get a second one for my uncle. Probably will go in store on release day and try if I can't get a pre order.

Oh, cool! Just learned the extra controller I'm getting is wireless and I'm also getting the official prima book for the SNES classic. Worth the $40 extra IMO.

Good going, Nintendo.

Officially supporting what homebrew has been able to give us for the longest time.

I'm not sure the rewind feature is a good thimf to have... Most would just say "git gud" like in the old times, but games like Contra or Battletoads.........

A younger, quicker Hanafuda once beat Contra on his NES without using the Konami code. (But first I did it about a half-dozen times using the Konami code.) This was in approx 1990, when you were lucky to own more than 10 games so you just got really good at what you had. I probably couldn't beat the first stage now without some practice.

Funny thing about Amazon, there were two entries, one had Nintendo, one had something called Nintendo Digital Download/GamesTrust or something weird; the second one was taken down. Coincidence? I think not!

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
