so i havent played my 3ds forever , its a olds 3ds xl on low firmware and gateway. So i looked at gateway site and seen they are out of the game and after some google time i deduced its cause of CFW. I found a few of the good guides but im still a little confused.

1.Do i just pull my gateway card out and install boot9strap and follow 3ds.guide and thats all? im on gateway compatible fw
2.i read something about gateway saves not working on cfw unless converted?
3. could i still use gateway if i wanted with any game or will the newest ones not play?

1. You could toss your Gateway in favor of installing Boot9Strap, and yes all you'd have to do is follow the guide assuming your firmware is 11.2.
2. GateWay saves must be converted before they can be injected to CIA installed titles.
3. GateWay only works on 11.2 and below as of right now (There are supposed to release something today actually which may put them back in the game, who knows). There is a way to chainload Gateway using an emuNAND on 11.2, as well as some specific files on Boot9Strap. Although I would not suggest it, considering if you accidentally try to boot GateWay in sysnand (above 11.2) you will remove CFW from an O3DS and will brick a N3DS.

1. Extract your saves from Gateway by following https://gbatemp.net/threads/importing-gateway-saves-to-cia-games.425743/ if you can't install cias (for JKSM) then there is a 3ds file of FBI you can use to install it. Get it from https://github.com/steveice10/FBI/releases and the cia of JKSM from https://github.com/J-D-K/JKSM/releases

2. Follow https://3ds.guide on your sysNAND and follow the optional section "Move emuNAND" when given the option

3. Import the saves again once you're on the latest firmware with B9S and Luma and you've installed your games.

thanks for the quick reply guys. So i basically save my game saves on my PC then yank gateway and format my SD card and do the CFW from 3ds.guide then once i have the cfw i put the said game in question CIA file on the SD card then install run the CIA file for JKSM and follow that guide? sorry guys lol its pretty confusing. Oh ps i am on fw 4.5 i believe does that make any difference?
