Due to an early leak of Sonic Mania in which a user was able to successfully redeem their collectors edition digital code on the Switch early and live stream the game; SEGA have responded by posting the intro animation to the game slightly ahead of schedule. Although the full launch trailer is still due to go live Monday 14th alongside the lifting of the review embargo, if you wish to you can watch the animation in the video above or on the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel.

Sonic Mania is launching on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC on August 15th and we will be livestreaming our first playthrough on the GBAtemp Twitch channel.

Sometimes openings are kind of like trailers, and we all know how those are. For example, the NieR: Automata opening has some pretty spoilery scenes IIRC.

I'm not sure where you picked that up but that isn't true. Tyson Hesse (http://tysonhesse.tumblr.com/) and Studio Yotta (https://twitter.com/StudioYotta) are the main folks behind it.

Corrections aside, I've been looking forward to this for awhile and have no doubt in Taxman and Stealth's work. I replayed their Sonic 2 remake yesterday in anticipation and hope this release leads to console releases of the Sonic 1 and 2 remakes. Plus I wouldn't say no to Sonic 3 and Knuckles which was never greenlit.

The only thing I didn't like is that Hesse's Sonic is really inconsistent and repeatedly goes off model. Not that the errors look bad tho, it's just jarring
