Ok, update. I moved the save over to the SD with the exploit. Moved the Nintendo 3DS folder to the micro SD and redownloaded the game through the eshop. Data Management says there is an "unknown" (at least unknown to the software) DSiWare save in the SD. It has a question mark on it and reads as 0 blocks. Did the save become corrupted somehow? I'm not sure what's wrong. Should I delete the game, and check again to see if I can move the data over?

I deleted the game. The DSiware data on the SD card is still reading as unknown. Should I delete it and add the file back onto the SD through the computer and see if that changes anything?

Update: I tried to delete the unknown/corrupted DSiware data via Data Management. I then put the data back onto the SD. Now it shows there is no DSiware data at all. But this happens after Data Management "configures" DSiware data on the SD card. I also notice blocks being freed up on the SD card after this happens. I thought maybe the DSiware data was being deleted, but upon checking the SD card, nothing has changed. Including the size of all files and the folder itself. I'm not sure what's going on.

So I looked into it a bit myself. Evidently the target 3DS thinks the game is "illegitimate" that's why it's appearing with a question mark. Though I'm not sure how this is possible. I do have two different versions of the DSiware save though. The first is from when I first made the transfer. And the second file was made after the transfer.

The first file does not appear at all in the microSD while in data management
The second file appears but as "unknown"

Ok try this.

1. Restore NAND backup to source so the game is there
2. Install the save etc as per guide
3. In System Settings ->Data Management ->DSiWare move the game to the SD card
4. uninstall the game on the target if it is there
5. On the target's SD card remove the Nintendo 3DS folder and paste in the one from the source. Don't merge them - remove it completely then paste in the one from the source
6. On the target, go to System Settings ->Data Management ->DSiWare and move the game from SD to system memory

I need to restore my NAND back to before I installed the save? The game is still on the source 3DS right now. Should I just try deleting it and see if that changes anything first?

Ok skip step 1 then. And step 2 if you can verify the hacked save works (gives white screens with error about boot.nds when you try to launch the exploit)

Ok I followed your steps. The game still doesn't appear in DSiware data management. When I try to access the SD on DSiware management, a message pops up that the SD card is being configured, I notice a few blocks of data are being changed, and then nothing appears.

Maybe try a new SD card? That's all I can think of.

Ok another thing. the system is creating a separate folder in /Nintendo 3DS/ with a different number value. I'm sure you know what I mean. The NAND is only reading the folder with a corresponding number value. It's been doing this every time I try to move the file over. I suppose I can rename the folders to force the NAND to read one folder over the other or is it better to just move the exdata and Nintendo DSi folder over to the one the NAND is reading?

Did you fully remove the current Nintendo 3DS folder and replace it with the one from the source? And it's still creating a new folder? It kind of sounds like you formatted the source in between making the backup and transferring.

Both systems have been formatted at least once only after the transfer. It was an attempt to try and troubleshoot the issue on my own, and now knowing more about what the issue actually is that was an error on my part. However, I kept copies of all files between formats. I don't know if this changes anything now that I think about it. But they are all still there.

I can see from the files though that the string of numbers for the folders was always different on the target and source, before and after the transfer, they never once shared the same value. Like I said from the start, the only thing that seems to have transferred from the source to the target was the NNID before I hit the error.

You formatted the target after the transfer? That's why it won't work. You'll have to wait out the time and do it again.

Ok then, that explains it. Question relating to the second transfer attempt, will I have to do it once or twice? Do I need to transfer the NNID back to the source, wait a week, and then actually try again or can I transfer from the source once the time limit is off even without a NNID on it?

Four Swords isn't purchasable. I would have to use an entirely new game. I also still have a NAND back up with the game still installed on the source before the exploit as well.

Yeah I know about the other method. Either pay 2 bucks to wait one week or pay nothing and wait 2 and transfer twice. There is also magnethax on the horizon that'll allow all of this nonsense to be bypassed. Either way its waiting time, I just have to decide how long I'm willing to wait. And yeah, I'm glad we worked it out too. Thanks for the help.

Did you format the source between making the backup and transferring? If the steps didn't work then something went wrong in the process, and you'll have to wait the seven days and transfer again.
Or, you could buy a supported flashcart and do NTRBoothax which is released now.
