So I did some research and to what I can see I haven't seen anyone else see this

I was attempting to connect to the internet with WEP on the DS connection settings, when I wondered "I wonder if I can skip WEP"

The answer is no, but it turns out typing any 5 letter word will "skip" the WEP entry (Thanks @sp3off)

I'm not sure on how but it may be possible to use this in some way, so I created this thread to showcase any findings.

The answer is no, but I did find something interesting.

I tried typing in "nowep" in the "Enter WEP key" section, and, to my surprise, it accepts it. It also accepts "nokey", "keyno" and "wepno" its interesting to see this since its such a odd thing to include, being able to skip that segment
without actually being able to skip it. Its obviously intentional since it counts so many combinations, and its just an odd and interesting thing that (As far as I am aware) I'm the first to see.

(If I just haven't done enough research ignore me)

(This appears to be universal, I tested with an emulator, a 3ds, and with 2 games)
very interesting

So if I understood well, you found out that you can "bypass" the WEP key inclusion. This is verrry interesting, imagine that we could create a "hotspot" by only doing this.

EDIT: Actually it accepts every 5-character thing you type, so, it's like I've broke your conclusion.

Typing "qwert" and also "azert" worked.

I know this is pretty old but there is a reason why you can "skip" the wep entry by using 5 random caracters : 64 Bits WEP uses 10 Hexadecimal character (0-9/A-F) or 5 ascii caracters. You could also "skip" it with 13 ascii caracters or 26 hex because it is what is used for 128 bits wep.

Of corse, what you type to "skip" wep entry will not be the actual network key so the only thing that will happen is that the DS will fail to connect.
