Hardware The 2DS XL actually uses the same 800x240 screen found on the 3DS XL

No idea if this is known by now but I figured it's worth sharing anyway. Do you recall this? The infamous "scanlines" found in all 3DS devices when 3D is turned off. The regular 2DS doesn't have this because it uses a single non-3D LCD. I thought the 2DS XL screen would be the same since it lacks 3D, but according to that review it actually uses the same screen found in the 3DS XL, meaning its resolution is 800x240 and not 400x240 and the "scanlines" are present.

The 2DS XL screen isn't supposed to have a parallax barrier, yet it looks exactly like the 3DS XL screen when the 3D slider is slid all the way to the bottom. Maybe the 2DS XL is capable of showing 3D but is forced off via software.

In any case, don't know about you, but for me it's a deal breaker since I can't stand looking at the scanlines.

I wonder if it would be possible to enable 3D via software.
If a dev from 3DS scene could come up with this it would be genius
Depends on if the parallax barrier is actually present. If it isn't, then enabling 3D mode would merely allow for 800x240 resolution to be used, though it's in the dual 400x240 framebuffer format instead of a single 800x240 framebuffer.

But, if the parallax barrier wasn't there, would we see the scanlines?

Unfotunately, the 3D effect works on the principle of parallax, and games are programmed as such. So it won't happen.

The scanline issue looks bad, but I have yet to run into that problem myself.

Are you sure it's actually the same screen from a hardware perspective? Pretty sure it's not, the n2DS screen is significantly thinner and shorter (ribbon cables) than the o3DS XL's.

I'm not sure at all. The information I have gathered from the linked video. It may be that they cut some cables or components that are used for the parallax barrier.
