Im only a few days into owning my new-old 3DS XL (fully hacked, waiting for a flashcard!) and already my hands are protesting! I've read in at least one other thread that cases, shells or covers might make the system heat up. But I've been playing a few actual 3DS games and the system doesn't seem to get warm at all! So if there really isn't any issue there I would like some sort of extra grip.

I was looking at these - Any opinions? Better options? Remember: This is an OLD 3DS XL!

I have two of those Dreamgear grips. IMO, it's totally worth it. Very comfortable.
I think it's tacky how it has their website etched into back of it, but other than that, I can't complain too much. The shoulder buttons feel really natural. The comfort grip comes in two pieces. One for the top half and one for the bottom. The top half seems pretty pointless once you start using it. They probably could have done a better job of that part of it - to make it fit more snugly or to enhance the grip in some way. But since the whole purpose of this is to make holding the console in a more comfortable fashion, I won't knock them for it.
I've used these on my new 3DS XLs. I'm presuming it's a similar experience.

Note to New 3DS Users: For a while, I was swapping out my memory card so much that I didn't bother to put the back cover on it (I left the battery and the card slot and everything completely exposed), and I didn't have any problem with the battery popping out or anything.

But to be honest, if I could do it all over again and I still had my old 3DS, I would have got the external battery pack case. Not only does it serve the same function as this, but it adds hours of battery life. I wish one of these third party companies would make a comfort grip like this that has a battery as well.

No prob. Let me know how you like it.

I've gone back and forth with 3DSs that don't have the grip and I still prefer the one with the grip. Makes the whole unit feel more substantial. I'm curious what others think of it as well. I guess I could go on Amazon and look at reviews. Ha.

Also adds another layer of protection. Please note: be careful if you have any extra case on your 3DS. It's kind of hard to fit anything else in between the grip and the 3DS. It's a pretty snug fit so you may have to choose between having a protective case and using this grip. Since it's silicone, you might be able to stretch it though.

Oh, by the way...I found this on Amazon cheaper. It could save you a few dollars.

I bought the "Cyber" grip for my regular-size N3DS. And it is excellent. I wrote a short review HERE . Also I discuss a modification I was trying out which would kinda lock the upper screen in place when playing and eliminate any wobble. At that time, I was just using a wedge of rubber pencil eraser for this, but I have since done it properly with some very hard rubber used for plumbing washers. That mod, which the Cyber grip accommodates perfectly, also is the bomb. I did it because my N3DS had more hinge wobble than I liked, but I would recommend it anyway because the upper screen clicks into place now and will not budge until I decide to close it. Zero wobble.

The Cyber grip was about the only option I had because I use the regular N3DS, not XL. But they make one for the XL. Just with the XL, there are other options including the Dreamgear. But the Dreamgear looks like more of a pain to take off when you need SD card access, which I do often (CFW, emus, etc.) The Cyber grip just snaps on, snaps off. 2 seconds.

I second the cyber grip. I've also found the official Hori steering wheel far more comfortable than without for almost every circumstance.

Well this wasn't your fault but I didn't read close enough before ordering: I have the old 3DS XL not a standard 3DS haha

Oh well! I'm sending it back. Unfortunately I can't seem to find grips for the old 3DS XL that aren't exorbitantly expensive!

They have both. Here: Comfort Grip for Original 3DS (Not the “NEW” version) – Silicone Protective Cover Gives Your 3DS Armor - (Transparent Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004LQRENK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_xMLJzbB9VNKEM

It's currently $14.93. You have to look because there are always multiple listings from different sellers. This seller is offering Prime shipping speed and is backed by Amazon. Plus, it's cheaper than manufacturer and it's not used.

My N3DS XL grips were a lifesaver - or at least a hand-saver; my CTS starts making my fingers go numb in under an hour without them.
