I stopped playing after Origins but I always really enjoyed these games. This looks like something I'd actually enjoy so I might pick it up.

Ys series had different game genre.

The first 2 were action adventure (you bumped into the enemies to attack them on the field), like Zelda game, but there were no "sword button" you just walk into the enemies to hit them.
They had a LOT of remakes on multiples consoles, and became more "current gen".

The 3rd one is a plateform RPG, in the same look than Zelda II, but being an RPG I feel about it like a metroidvania :) I loved that one and played it multiple times.

Never had time to play the other ones, but screenshots show that they are still Action RPG. maybe there are some JRPG too? Yv 7 is maybe JRPG. it's because of the new Ys7 party system, I thought it was JRPG.

I only played 1 and Memories of Celceta but I can say I like this franchise.

Not really like MoC at first because it a bit confuse but after understand the mechanic it really is an enjoyable game.

Actually they're all ARPGs. The series remained with the bump system until Ys IV (with the exception of Ys III, as you've mentioned). Ys V was the first game in the series to have an attack and jump buttons.

Ys VI updated and refined the gameplay (followed by Oath in Felghana - Ys III remake - and Origin), and Seven came up with the party system, changing again the gameplay and making everything even faster and more aggressive (followed by Memories of Celceta - Ys IV remake).

Ys VIII actually made a few tweaks in Celceta's system, being something between Celceta (with it's party system, Flashes and a few other stuff) and VI/Origin/Felghana (with the return of the jump button and the world's design, with exploration being the main focus again).

I've played pretty much all those available in English (including fan translations) and it's without a doubt one of my favourite series.
Recently pre-ordered that sexy LE for the Vita version, totally worth the 90€. <3

I had almost the same doubts before, so I made a little research.

"Lacrimosa" means "crying" in latin and italian, as references the title of Mary, Mother of Jesus, "Our Lady of Sorrows".

And Dana, well, is one of the game's protagonists. ;D

Lacrymosa, adjective from Lacrima = tears
Dana's tears.

I could be wrong, and they used that name for something else than its etymology.
storia lacrimosa = touching story

It could be "something stirring, touching", like grieve, something which gives you tears in the eyes.
Dana's grief. maybe she will be sad, she'll lose someone.

Nice to see more YS games really love the series, played the first two games on the MSX2.
The music from the second game are very good.

Music of the remake is good remake, on the PSP and PSP (don't play the shity NDS version), this also the version to play now.

Funny detail on the MSX2 version of YS 2, it is one of the first games that got translated in English by a dutch group off MSX fans.
The another on the PSP is also very good.
