PlayStation Plus membership cost to go up in Europe/Australia

image.jpeg

Sony will be increasing the cost of their subscription service, PlayStation Plus. On August 31, the annual fee will go up from £40.00 to £50.00 for the UK. In Europe, costs will increase to €60.00 yearly while Australia will be faced with a rate hike to $80.00. Those in North America will not face these same rises in price, but only likely because there already was a rise in cost for subscribers back in September 2016. Customers can still buy PS+ memberships for the current rate, until the end of August, so it may be wise to grab a year if you're interested in what the service offers.

The only reason at this point for wanting a PS4 for me would be October's Taiko no Tatsujin, and that doesn't even need PSN+ to use it's online (clearly stated in all adverts)

The price for PS+ in NA went up a while back. It was only inevitable that the PAL regions would follow suit sooner or later.

PAL regions already had multiple price hikes in the time it took them to increase NA's price once. NA's increase was the one following suit, this is a new set of hikes not a continuation of NA's.

Sony keeps on making shit movies and decisions then it raises its products' prices to make up for it. Also, the customers are to be blamed for the price increases as they keep on paying.

At this rate Sony will bump it up in a few years more. :rofl2:

That's the best defence ppl have for Nintendo's upcoming paid online service. :P
Naw. They have and make MUCH MORE than enough. They're doing this just to do this. Just like why they made online cost money in the first place. "Microsoft does, Sony thinks they can too."

Pay 60 Euro to get "free" games. Makes sense. :-)
"Free" shit games, too. GG, Sony.

Now that I think seriously about it, Brexit is probably why the price has increased.

Is better than charging the same price as a standard game for playstation plus, then getting games that are probably no where near as good, and only can be played as long as you have playstation plus active.

Theres only a tax charge if you buy the cards from physical retailers. Subscribing via Sony is tax free, or buying cards off of eBay as well.

As to the price raise, PSN cards go on sale so often it makes 0 difference. I haven't paid full price for 1 year PS+ cards in like 3 years, so meh.

EDIT: It also depends on the state, each one has a different sales tax number. Here in MI it's only 6%, some states it's 0.
Are PS+ sales even a thing in Europe? I've seen people mention it happens pretty frequently in the US, but I don't recall ever really seeing that here.

It's not Sony that does the sale, it's various retailers. Ebay usually has them on sale every other week, I usually get 1 year for $45 vs the $60 MSRP.

This is why I stopped playing PlayStation and Xbox. The paying for online. I would not care if no one could get my fucking ip.
This just makes me hope more that FighterZ comes out on the Switch so I can play online for free and then when it becomes paid in 2018 I won't bother. Well, unless it's really worth it which I doubt.

I never liked subscription services in gaming, they'd have to give me a ps4 for free if they want me to pay any kind of subscription. Actually why don't they do something like that? Pay full price for a console and pay a minimal subscription/no subscription. Or they offer the same console but make it digital only with a larger hdd for a quarter of the price and charge a higher subscription fee. Kinda how Amazon does their cheap tablet. They'll most likely make more money having it locked to their digital shop.

Unfortunately, maintaining servers isn't free. Those who believe we shouldn't pay for online services are wrong. The last thing I want to see rise up, is a Free To Play online service. We all know the absolute crap fest that F2P brings. We don't need that.
If server costs are a problem, why not publicly release source code to the servers and add a custom server option to the games?

Can charge whatever they want for the official one, less load on it, and cheaters are free to go elsewhere... every gamer wins

Maybe I'd consider renewing if the free games were even half decent. Definitely never going to after the price increase.
