I watched it like a week or two ago and thought it'd be a pretty good film since the trailer made me think so but as I kept on watching it, it just became so dull, unoriginal, un-GitS and completely missed its true essence and culture (Japanese).

There is a silver-lining to this, seeing Scarlet Johanson wearing a fake nude body. :P

Power Rangers 2017 sucked and this sucked, imo. I wonder what's next. Hope that War for the Planet of the Apes doesn't because Rise and Dawn are masterpieces in their own right, in fact, Planet of the Apes' films offer a perspective into a dystopian future we could perhaps live in (swap the apes with humans and so on and you can see how it goes together).

Power Rangers rocked! Haven't seen this yet, but dude, don't be such a purist. Damn Saiyans and their pride. :tpi:

Power Rangers was so boring they took ages to get to the action and when they did it wasn't even that impressive or entertaining. Power Rangers 2015 even as short of a film as it were, I'd still rather watch that over and over again.

I didn't watch it yet, but I was afraid it lost his essence like you said.
I didn't like Lucie, and thought it would be the same kind of movie.

it reminds me what Mamoru Oshii said for Jin-Roh (3rd in the series of 2 previous movies) : He couldn't make real actors reproduce what he envisioned, while drawing what he wanted could pass the actor's expression and sentiment correctly.
I'll probably watch it one day, but maybe Ghost in the Shell should remain in anime (or manga) to "pass the feeling" as it should.

I liked it. I took it for what it was, and left it at that.
The thing destroying most movies / books / whatevers is expectations.
It's a Hollywood adaptation of a manga / anime, I was sure it would miss some points here and there, and not feel Japanese, or whatever. Why then expect it to be super faithful to the original work?
Nah, I just went in and saw a decent sci-fi movie. Plain and simple.

You're right I went in with the expectations of expecting what you'd get from a GitS production but while that was good as an action flick, it didn't have the GitS-feel, imo.
