Anyone here still have/use an N-Gage? I still have my QD I got on contract when they came out (I know, I know... think they were discontinued by the time my contract ended lol)

Will never part with it even if they do start to go up in value.

They are a great handheld bargain IMO along with Game Gears for the poor collector :D this + a decent size MMC card = cheap retro lols

I still have my original NGage and QD stored somewhere with 2gb MMC. Also have the complete gameset downloaded. It's still a pretty nice console to visit from time to time.

I always wanted the original one too, no idea why. Always had a few games knocking about but I've just ordered a 2gb MMC and got the full game set for it :)

sorry 1st of all.

N-Gage was the ouya of its time.

nuff said.

Haha in a way I think you're right but I do think it had more redeeming features. I do think it was a really interesting concept executed poorly - very much ahead of its time in a way

Never owned one (or seen them in stores), but I have a promotional neck strap I got at an electronics store the same day I went to a PSP launch event...

I bet there are probably more of those neck straps out there than actual N Gages ^_^

Ah, the good ol' taco phone.

Such a ludicrous impractical design you have to love it lol.

The QD did rectify the "taco ear" and that's the only one I have yet used

I still have my Ngage QD with a 512mb MMC.

What appealed to me at the time the QD was a smartphone at a very affordable price. I believe it was around £120 when i got mine in June 2004 and to be honest it blew all these feature phones out the water people were paying £30 a month on contract for.

Plus you also got some awesome handheld games on the go, Tomb Raider, Sonic N (Basically Sonic Advance), Sky Force, Tony Hawks and Snake 3D. I also had Java versions of the Yeti Sports games which were really popular at the time. Then the Symbian S60 OS had 1000's of apps, people take this for granted today, however back then downloading a full app from the internet (not an app store) and installing it on your phone was something few people did.

I remember downloading a GameBoy and Mega Drive emulator for my Ngage and copying loads of roms to my phone, making good use of the d-pad. My friend had like 1mb of GRPS data a month, so had an MSN Messenger client on his which worked really well on the go.

The Ngage QD was such an underrated phone and gaming device, everyone I showed mine to ended up wanting one as it made their phone at the time look rubbish in comparison. I persuaded a couple of mates to buy one at the time who also loved it.

I had the original one along with 256mb MMC, I loved it...till I bought DS :D
Most of the games have the abismal framerate, 10-15 FPS.
It also has some gems, I remember loving Glimerati (racing game), Pathway to Glory, Sonic N (which was heavily hindered by the narrow screen), Red Faction, Sims (which I tought was awesome at the time, and then I played GBA version :) ), The new snake, also there was Splinter Cell which was later poretd to DS, and both have very very bad graphics and very low FPS...
IMHO N-Gage has one of the best d-pads, and also having the whole keypad for buttons was cool, if I remember correctly King of Fighters was using highest number of keys (also excellent port!).
Battery was very poor, it would run 1-2 hours of pure gaming (and they say todays smartphone have bad batteries ), but using it for calls and SMS it could run for 3-4 days.

Yup it had its share of gems that's for sure. Real shame the QD never took off although the original had no chance lol.

I actually prefer the original for pure gaming as I find it more comfortable to hold but as a phone and all round device the QD absolutely smashed it in every regard. Pity the consumers had already made their minds up about it.

Can also overclock the original which helps with the aforementioned 10-15 FPS frame rates :)

I also have my QD CIB, with about 7 games and a couple of NFR ones... It was a great concept, way ahead of its time, but poorly executed.

Yup agreed. The QD is far better than the original but too late for anyone to care by then.

It's not so bad, main thing holding it back by the time they released the QD was the tiny portrait screen IMO, other than that the QD was a really nice device. You have Sonic, Elder Scrolls, Rayman, Sims is a nice time waster, SSX is surprisingly good, and loads of others I haven't mentioned!

Hah I actually clicked onto this part of the forum because I just booted my N-Gage for the first time in like 5 years today. Having a lot of trouble getting the games to work though =/
Might have some bad roms. Can't seem to find my old folders with apps & stuff either.

But oh man was the N-Gage awesome. PSX-ish graphics on a PHONE? With the ability to install "apps" such as full fledged video players (conversion required though x).

This thing was a beast. I think it gets a lot worse wrap than it deserves </3

I was really only interested in the N-Gage because of its Sonic Advance port. Can't say I know much else about it, though.
