...I said PSP, not DS. WTF are you on about? The DS was hacked to high heaven, sold over 100 million, and was pirated too, but nice try.

uhhh.... PSP?
LMFAO, who spit in your oatmeal? I've never seen someone so pissed off about something so pointless. Let me be clear that I have pirated plenty of games and am not taking sides here, I'm just stating "facts" as they have been told to us by Sony. I'm not trolling, I'm not trying to start a flamewar, I'm not trying to say piracy is evil. Relax. What about it? Oh yeah, the super shit Sales of the handheld, 76.3 MILLION worldwide.... I forgot. Also the poor library of games available, only 1372 of them.... Stop talking crap. Fed up of seeing people spout this rubbish. There is not one console that died due to it being hacked. It was already dying or had died. If you can find me irrefutable proof that hacking lead to the downfall of ANY mainstream console I will apologise.
Let me be clear though, we have already covered Wii, WiiU, PSP, DS and the Dreamcast and proven that none of these consoles died because of hacking.

Can we now keep this thread on topic please??
See the above link.I could ask the same question; both were heavily hacked and both did well.

Now, this is Sony's opinion on the matter and many disagree, but remember they are the ones who decide what to do with the system. We can disagree with them all we want, but if piracy influenced their decisions with the PSP, then I'd say piracy had a lot to do with it, right? There are plenty more articles on Google I can link if you don't like this one for whatever reason.
I'd also like to point out the lack of localization at the end of its life. HUGE big name titles like:
....and more never made it to USA because... why? Japan decided that it wasn't worth the cost because USA would just pirate it to hell. When a system's big titles aren't even being sent out due to fear of piracy, how is that NOT killing a system? Would you say Nintendo is doing well if they decide piracy is so bad they stop shipping out Mario games? Of course not.

....I'll be taking that apology now, thanks.

...that says nothing about PSP, or quotes from Sony's staff. Sorry, I'm gonna go ahead and believe Sony over the opinions of the guy in this thread you linked. Please, I'm open to discuss this with you, but you are linking me, and telling me, pointless info. We are talking about the PSP. I will admit this is the ONLY system I can think of that had ANY negative effect from piracy. As I said above, I'm not trying to say piracy is evil and kills systems, but PSP is a one time example of when it did exactly that.See this link as well, http://gbatemp.net/threads/piracy-common-myths.344858/
I can't stand the anti-piracy sycophancy on this site.
Lol, I could care less if the thread gets locked. I'm not here to argue with anyone, only educate them. I'm not "moaning" about piracy killing consoles, as I have 5 hacked systems within arms reach of me right now. If they choose not to listen, so be it. Doesn't affect me in the least.
You guys having fun with Piracy battles? Well, you can continue, i'm not complaining.
(7 pages overfilled with moaning about Piracy killing consoles...)
But try not to sunk your own ship, 'cause I don't want this to get locked.
tbh? I have no idea.Also.... why do you keep capitalizing "Piracy"? lol.
I just noticed this little part here.... really? Lol... -I'M- anti-piracy? Oh wow..... you clearly have no idea who you're talking to. HahahahaI can't stand the anti-piracy sycophancy on this site.

Yeah might as well dreail it to EoFlol this thread completely derailed
Blargity blarg blarg.Say what you want but you know piracy is wrong.
It happens everytime piracy is mentioned. Hell, we could discuss 7up vs Sprite and someone will relate it to piracy or politics..lol this thread completely derailed
As I already said, many people disagree with Sony that piracy killed the PSP due to its sales numbers. ...but again, THEY are the ones that make the decisions with the console. If they decide to stop localizing games for other countries BECAUSE OF THEIR OPINION ON PIRACY (right or wrong), then I'd say piracy killed it, no? It doesn't matter if they are making excuses or not, the fact of the matter is piracy is (so they claim) the reason they did what they did with the PSP.... kill it outside of Japan.Blargity blarg blarg.
The piracy debacle always leaves a sour taste.
Not to mention, @MadMageKefka just for kicks, the PSP didn't die or struggle in any way due to piracy. It had a healthy run with great titles and support. Sony coming up with excuses is nothing new. Especially when you look at that generation specifically. PSP vs DS... I wonder who won... DS... Who suffered from more than easily accessible piracy? DS... Look at the Vita vs 3DS... Who won? 3DS. Who had more easily accessible piracy? Gee I wonder.
There's nothing actually proving that any game system died due to piracy. Sony saying one thing means next to nothing.
In all seriousness? The Switch gaining some form of piracy so quickly would just be hilarious.

Fanta is better. It happens everytime piracy is mentioned. Hell, we could discuss 7up vs Sprite and someone will relate it to piracy or politics..
That part made me laugh. That's just it. You can tell this topic touches a nerve with most people because they get so angry about it. My opinion? They are just trying to justify piracy to themselves, so they feel better about being a dirty thief, lol.insert a long idiotical argument as to why it's illegal, hurting everyone's intelligence.
Say what you want but you know piracy is wrong.

I personally don't agree with having to pay for a 20 year old game from someone on eBay for $50 for an Snes game that doesn't have a working battery. Or a game that doesn't exist on Steam, PSN, XBL, Origin, etc. That's just me though. Companies that still exist should get revenue for readily available games, I agree. But games that belong to companies that are defunct/merged, no longer existing or games that are otherwise impossible to get, I see nothing morally wrong with obtaining said game.
Summary:
If a game still is available via digital means, that's fine
If a game belongs to a company that is defunct, the game is not available on any digital distribution platform and/or is sold at an exorbitant price on eBay, I refuse to fork out large amounts of cash for a game that may not even work anymore without having to restore it.
I really don't feel obligated to pay some scalper on the internet inflated prices for a 20 year old game, that's just me though. If you want to hate me or otherwise despise me, I won't blame you
I fucking give up trying to debate on why I do what I do, it's in vain trying to explain.
