Since a few people have been wondering, here's a bit of history about this project and a little bit about its current state:

I started this project in August 2014, and have been working on it in bursts ever since. Over the past two years, I've had team members come and go, each of which has contributed their own share to the project. Without their help, I never would have gotten very far in this project. Even so, a lot of work is stuff that I have to do myself (final check the scripts for consistency, extract/edit/insert graphics, edit the font, trace asm code to fix alignment issues, etc.).

Unfortunately, my time is pretty limited, so I'm not always able to work on the project when I'd like to. This past month, I've been going through the scripts and going over some of my older revisions and fixing things that just didn't sound right. The down side is that I haven't been able to get the number of scripts with a "Revision 2" any higher recently. That said, however, I've finished combing over the scripts that have already been completed, and am ready to move on to the ones that haven't gotten a second revision yet.

At the moment it's just me working on this project, so please bear with me for the wait. I promise it'll be worth the wait :yaypsp:
ok then i will gladly wait patiently. good luck with the rest of the project

Hello guys, I'm new here too. Actually I've been following this project for 6 months and only now I decided to create an account.

Hey FShadow (creator) have you ever though about living as a game translator? like translating popular japanese VN with a team and receiving donations on Patreon depending on the progress you'll be making, I'm sure a lot of people would pay for someone to translate VNs like Chaos;Child, Robotics;Notes from 5pb, I don't know a lot of VNs, but I think it's a good idea. What do you think?

I don't think that's legal which is why every fan translation ever has been free...
Altough sometimes you can make donations a way or another.

some threads just die, its nice to know that its still alive and how close they are to finishing, it keeps us hoping :P

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

oh and ahhh, dont hate, yes i just made an account, but ive been following this thread for the past few "years" and am still waiting, if they had a kickstarter campaign going i would happily donate $$$ to give this a little "push" and knowing people are still following development of an indie development usually gives motivation to work, not trying to be rude here but if y'all are going through funding issues and lack of motivation it'd be a huge letdown for me *cry* but if you need any help feel free message me, i have a fair share of qualifications, if its in my area of "expertise" ill be sure to let you know, as of now im just working as an I.T person at a shop so ill have plenty of free time to help out :)

PS: if you guys for whatever reason decide to drop this project, atleast leave whatever you've worked on behind, im sure someone would pick it up from where you left off, again, sorry if im being rude, i swear its not my intention

I believe its already been stated in a previous post that If the development stops for whatever reason, that the files would become available regardless, so there is still hope! lol.

Regarding a Kickstarter campaign, I'm not sure where fan translation lie legally, it seems to be a gray area, i'm not sure what the rules are for monetary gain for such a project, even if its just donations to keep the project going.

Wrote this in a YouTube comment yesterday on one of my videos, pasting it here since it's been a while:

"I apologize for the constant delays and overall lack of progress. I know it must be disappointing for you, because it's disappointing for me as well. I used to have a lot of free time back when I started this project, but now I'm bogged down by university classes, work, and other obligations. It's really difficult to sit down for a couple hours and sift through spreadsheet after spreadsheet of text, proofreading scripts and making sure everything is held to a high standard of quality. After a long day of work and class, the last thing that I want to do is subject myself to another session of long, tedious work. I really want more than anything to be able to finish this project and release the full patch as soon as possible, but I'm just one person, ya know? I don't get paid to do this, and it does take a large toll on me. I thank you for your continued patience, and hope that you continue to support this project. I promise it will be finished eventually, and I hope you will find it to have been well worth the wait."

I also would like to reiterate again that if for any reason I decide to abandon this project, all work done on it up to that point will be released. That would include scripts, graphics, asm hacks, and translation tools, and maybe the most recent build of the patch. I don't plan on abandoning the project though, so let's hope it doesn't come to that!

Also, since it's been a loooonggg time since I've shared any screenshots, here are a few that give a good idea of what the project looks like (of what has been translated/inserted):

I've translated almost all of the difficult graphics (the Extras Menu was a painnnnn to get just right), and all the board game non-dialog text has been inserted. Additionally, all of the principal's board game dialog has been inserted.

Some of the board game character interaction dialog has been inserted, and the window has been expanded to support longer strings of dialog. Unfortunately, any text that is longer that the width of the original window gets cut off when another character speaks (the effects can be seen in the 2nd image below). This will likely need an asm hack to fix.

I've tried to translate every occurrence of Japanese, such as the "FUMIZUKI ACADEMY" plate on the front gate stage. This particular graphic, however, gets too big in file size when I edit it, which causes the weird graphical glitches seen in the last 2 images. I will have to figure out a way to make the image more compressed.

And finally a list of what needs to be done:
  1. The story mode scripts need to be revised by me one last time to make sure there are no mistranslations, and that everything is consistent and flows well.
  2. The board game scripts need to be revised (first by anyone, then double checked by me for the same reasons listed above)
  3. The scripts need to be inserted back into the game. I'm pretty sure I have the tools I need for that, so this part shouldn't be too hard. I might be able to use help for this once the project gets to this point.
  4. Some minor asm hacks need to be implemented to give the game polish, such as aligning/centering some text, preventing board game dialog from being cut off by other text boxes, and altering how loading/saving/memory access dialogs appear. I might be able to do these, but it will take a lot of time without a skilled asm hacker.
  5. The game needs to be tested to make sure there are no crashes, cut off dialog, text box overflows, or untranslated text. During this phase, we will also be checking to make sure there are no typos or awkwardly phrased lines that need to be rewritten.
  6. Assuming no other major issues pop up, release the patch!

Assuming you guys worked on that every day that would only take around 1-3 months, more or less give or take, but seeing as you mentioned above your all busy with real life problems too, id guess around 3-5 months. Well, all i can say is keep up the hard work, im looking foward to it :)

oh and, you could just name the sign FUMIZUKI instead of fumizuki academy, im pretty sure it would make no difference to us, i mean, 99% of people wouldnt care
and the other 1% would probably get over it :)

Well it seems that games are ofc legal, and translating books and other misc items is legal, ill search around alittle more but im pretty sure its not illegal

OK SO after alittle googling i've found that the kickstarter is legal so long as you just release the patch and not the iso along side it :)
well...... there you have it :) have fun, if you decide to start a kickstarter up for whatever reason, ill be there supporting you

Yes, No, Maybe...
On one side accurate translation is a good thing, on the other side if it would take too much time and make too many problems, better leave it as is and just add a "readme" file with note with "this-and-this Kanji means Fumizuki Academy".
It pains me to see sometimes OFFICIAL translations going with "translation" as in "let's put completelly diffrent word here and hope nobody will notice"...
Also leaving just "Fumizuki" is like having let's say "Computer" instead of "Computer School", not too good idea, right?
Plus, if Fumizuki means July (Translate Google may or may not be wrong~) then it makes even more for argument of NOT leaving just word Fumizuki, because we get "July" instead of "July Academy".

In theory...yes, it should be legal as long as it is only patch-file (for example in xdelta format or whatever).
In practice...depends on the company behind the legal rights to the game and/or series. If they will say it's illegal, you can't win against this, they have more money, more lawyers, more prossecutors to use.

FShadow consider this, how about releasing some kind of "pre-alpha" patch for now? It will keep hungry fans at bay for a little while and maybe you will be more optimistic about finishing the project someday.
I'm not forcing you to do it, you will do as you please, just think about it at least :)
I am programmer myself - altough rusty for the lack of practice and work not exactly of choice as priority - and if I would go by the logic of first polishing the code, ironing all the bugs and making sure everything is 100,01% perfect...I would never release any homebrew, because I would ALWAYS find something to improve/fix/change/add.
Have a nice sunny day and keep up the good work~! :3

Just another touch on that.... if they left it as FUMIZUKI it wouldnt be a problem tbh... what 1/2 people will have a small issue with it, but it prevents annoying errors and max file size issue... i mean.. if someone was writing a story and introduced us, with no context at all with a word that doesnt have school or academy slapped on itd be different, but the schools the only thing in baka and/to test, and if you went through all the trouble to find a game and a patch you usually would've seen the anime/manga, i mean sure, if its that big an issue i dont mind the slow down.... but it really isnt worth the effort it takes to do it, think about that next time you take a dump infront of my ideals

again, coming here 99% of people know the context of fumizuki in the baka to test world, 0.99% would notice but shrug and walk away 0.099% would notice and say it aloud, under their breath, and 0.001% of people who are the biggest *beep*s will decide to make a written complaint.... thats really the scale, hell, my school has a front sign that says its name, without anything else... just the name isnt that uncommon

.....*grin*.............*walks away*
