Stupid question incoming! I have a digital Monster Hunter Generations gamesave on a non-modded 3DS. Is it possible to take that gamesave off the microSD, copy it over to a microSD on a modded 3DS and import it? My ultimate goal is to take my MHGen gamesave that's on a non-modded 3DS and convert it to MHX so I can then move it to MHXX w/ english patch and bounce it back & forth with the upcoming Japanese Switch version. I know if I was really desperate I could do a system transfer of the entire 3DS over to the modded 3DS but I rather keep all my legit stuff untouched. Any way to just transfer the game save?

Short answer is no, ‘cause save files are encrypted using a key tied to the system they are created on. You can’t just take them copy on a different 3DS and use them. They won’t be recognized.

Long answer.
In order to do what you want, you should somehow run Homebrew Launcer on the non-modded 3DS, decrypt the save file, copy it to the modded 3DS, encrypt it with that 3DS unique key and overwrite the MHGen save file you have on that 3DS (yes, you’ll also need a MHGen installed to the modded 3DS in order for it to create a save file you would then overwrite with the one you took from the non modded 3DS).
Then you need to install MHX on the modded 3DS, launch it to create its save file, back out, use MHX file manager to take the save file from you MHGen and transfer it to MHX (both on the same modded 3DS).
Only then you will have your original non-modded 3DS MHGen save file inside your modded 3DS MHX game.
It’s a hell of a ride...

More importantly, as I said, you have to find a way to run HB loader on unmodded 3DS if you want to have a chance to get your hands on the original non-modded 3DS MHGen save file. As far as I know, if you are on 11.4 o3DS, there’s no entry point for HB; on 11.4 new 3DS, though, you may use a couple of game cartridges. You need to hack the save file in them on a modded 3DS, insert the cart in your unmodded n3DS launch the game and then HB loader could be launched using the exploit on the game cartridge. Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon is one that should work.
Then again, you can’t use JKFM to backup and decrypt MHGen savefile, because that game save files work in a different way. There’s a specific save file manager (Homebrew) for MHGen. The link should be on the same page as JKFM.

Hi guys.
I’m a total noob here. I tried searching through the CFW Guide but something’s not totally clear to me.
I’ve run some searches in here too, but I either find posts from 2015 which are totally outdated now or addressing issues not quite like mine, so I’m sorry if this has already come out before and ask if you kindly could point me in the right direction to find a thorough explanation.

This is my issue: I have an o3DS with b9s. I followed the guide, did all the steps, installed Luma3DS, updated to 8.1 and now it’s running on SysNAND with System Update 11.5.0-38E. Everything works fine, but the thing is: that’s not my main 3DS.
All my games, my saves, my Miis, badges, themes and NNID are on a new 3DS XL which runs stock 11.4.0-37E firmware.

Unfortunately I came too late to the CFW scene; had I been here before April update to 11.4, I could have just hacked directly my n3DS XL from 11.3; I also had an old 3DS still on 9.2, though, which I was able to hack quite easily following the guide, as I said.

My point is: I understand the only way (other than waiting for NTRboothax) to hack my n3DSXL now is through DSIWarehax, which requires a system transfer from my already hacked o3DS, in order to have a modified save file for one of the supported DSiWare games on the n3DSXL.
What I don’t really get completely is how do I prevent my data (save files, Miis, Themes, badges, NNID) from being totally wiped out from the target n3DSXL by said system transfer; or, more correctly, I do I restore them after the transfer.

1) The saves are encrypted with a key tied to the n3DSXL. If I save the on my PC and then system transfer, will the key be changed so that moving back the save/extra data from the PC backup would do nothing? How could I decrypt them first If I can’t run JKFM on the stock FW n3DSXL?

2) The NNID from the o3DS will be transferred to the n3DSXL; how do I restore my former (main) NNID on the n3DSXL so that I can download all my stuff again (ambassador program games and eShop bought 3DS games)?

I know I can restore my o3DS to what it was before the system transfer just by backing up and restoring the NAND, but I’m more interested in restoring all the stuff on the target n3DSXL after the system transfer, without losing current data and NNID but with CFW installed in SysNAND.

Thank you to everyone who could clear all this stuff out.
Two options.
1. Get homebrew on the 11.4 N3DS by following one of the exploits in https://3ds.guide/homebrew-launcher-(alternatives). You'll be able to back up your game saves with JKSM and possibly your activity log with Chuthulu. I don't think you can back up Mii Plaza or your friend data.
2. Obtain a spare N3DS. Update to 11.5 and transfer to the spare first, wait seven days, then do the normal DSiWare hax to install CFW on the N3DS. Wait another seven days then transfer back from the spare to the N3DS. You won't lose anything, it will just take a while.

In terms of your NNID and downloading your Ambassador games again, option 2 will fix that and for option 1, format the console then sign back into the original NNID (after installing CFW).

Did you delete the NNID? That would be permanent. But it usually gives you a lot of warnings beforehand so it would be hard to do it accidentally.

This is really silly, but it turns out I actually was entering the wrong info. I kept changing the email/password on my Nintendo account thinking I was changing the email/password on my NNID... oops.

I got everything working now so I can finally get rid of the NNID, but I really appreciate the help anyways~!

Thank you man, you’ve been very helpful.
For option 2, I presume that buying a new n3DSXL which is running pre 11.4 stock firmware, installing CFW on it and then system transfer from my main n3DSXL to the new (hacked) one and use it as my main from then on will also work, won’t it?
Transferring from a stock system to a CFW one wouldn’t remove the CFW from the target, am I right?

Yep you can do that too, if it's only the data you're attached to not the console. And of course you could do this then wait 7 days, and transfer to your original N3DS and hack it as well. And yep, CFW consoles stay CFW, and stock ones stay stock, until CFW is installed, despite transfers.

Thank you again man. You definitely shed somebody light on some obscure details that weren’t clear for me.

Just one more thing ;) : can’t just use oothax to load HBL on my stock 11.4 n3DSXL and use bs9installer from there, right? Access to arm9 from HBL was patched in 11.4, right?

Yes. It only works on 11.3 and below.

Yeah you need DSiWare hax to get access to the NAND on 11.4 and above. The transfer is required because you can't load the save without NAND access. But the save does transfer.

Sorry to post here again so soon, but I'm not really sure where else to post this...

I'm having an issue with the music on my theme(s). After a few seconds, the music just stops, and doesn't loop like it should. I'm using official themes I got online with Themely to shuffle the themes. The music in freeShop also doesn't seem to work for me, despite me having dumped the DSP.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Correct me if I'm wrong but, from what I understand, you are wondering how you can to the DSiWare Save Injection hack on your n3DSxl? If so then the first step when doing so on 3ds.guide (which is a great website by the way, it's stupid proof, check it out!) is installing GodMode9 and doing a sysnand backup (basically a backup of your entire system data, this includes Miis, Themes, Basically everything) Then later in the guide after B9S is installed, you restore the sysnand backup and all your stuff is there. I'm not so sure about the NNID because I never did the DSiWare method, but when I hacked my 3ds my NNID was still there and was unchanged.

TL;DR "You do a full (sysnand) backup and after your 3ds is hacked you restore said backup"

Edit: Or as you said in your post, wait for NTRboothax, It's really up to you.

Hope this helped! :)

Is freeshop safe to use? I heard people were getting banned for having it? does anyone else use it and can confirm this?

Also CIAangel won't update does anyone know why? it just stays stuck at the wings.json screen.

freeShop is safe and no one has gotten banned from using it directly. Wherever you heard that from is giving you false information.

Is there a way to tell if a nand backup is from your system or not?

I'm going to send my console to be repared, and I'm afraid that they just change the motherboard without me noticing.

Thank you

It’s the other way around I’m interested in: I know I can backup the sysNAND on the source (CFW) and restore it after system transfer, but I want to preserve all the content on the target console (the n3DSXL I want to hack using DSiWarehax). I don’t care about the content on the already hacked o3DS. It would just serve as the injection method on the n3DSXL.

But, as I understand, I could use oothax on the n3DSXL to run JKSM and backup save files, but unfortunately there seems to be no way to save friends and MiiPlaza data :/

Since I’m not attached to the console, but to the data on it, I’m considering buying a new n3DSXL, first checking it’s on 11.3 or below, hack it, install CFW and then do a full system transfer from my current stock n3DSXL, thus preserving all relevant data (and I won’t even have to worry about NNID, ‘cause it will be transferred too and I’ll be using the new console as my main).

Thank you

I don’t know if a NAND could be used on any system regardless where it was backed from.
What I’m sure of, though, is that if they change your motherboard, you’ll have a 11.5 stock firmware when your console comes back and even if you could restore your previously backed-up NAND, you’ll first need to hack the new motherboard, which will require DSiwarehax or a hardmod :/

How can I change system font?
(ex: kor -> jpn)
I want to play srw ux, but some words are seen as question mark.
Acg shared font tool is not working after upgrading to b9s 1.2

Is there any solution?
