Fucking hell guys, did i mention piracy in my post?
No, so why you derail this into "uhh, piracy is bad and killed many devices" argument.
I'm so disappointed in you guys...
Nowadays nearly all hacking nowadays is solely used for pirating or installing software to support piracy (such as a FTP server). People who want to tinker can just buy a Raspberry Pi now.

[12:57 PM] hedgeberg: @TheRealProcyon nintendo is one of the richest companies in the world
[12:57 PM] hedgeberg: they project loss ranges based off the possibility of piracy
[12:58 PM] hedgeberg: they have market estimates for 5% piracy rate (which is way higher than what would ever actually happen)
[12:58 PM] hedgeberg: and they design for that NEW MESSAGES
[12:58 PM] hedgeberg: they know they can make more if they get a best case 0% piracy scenario
[12:58 PM] hedgeberg: but they budget for the worst case
[12:58 PM] hedgeberg: thats how they stay alive
[12:58 PM] hedgeberg: nintendo will not fall to piracy
[12:58 PM] hedgeberg: nor will any other gaming media titan
[12:59 PM] hedgeberg: which isnt to say piracy is acceptable
[12:59 PM] hedgeberg: because it very very much is not
[12:59 PM] hedgeberg: but it is to say that if it does become a severe issue with the switch, theyll still turn a profit
[12:59 PM] hedgeberg: in the absolute worst case, they have a flop like with the Wii U
[1:00 PM] hedgeberg: (which is basically guranteed to not happen due to the current market love of the switch and its success)
[1:00 PM] hedgeberg: but even in that worst case, they could have 0 revenue, i.e. negative profit, and continue to operate like that for 20 years off their cash holdings
[1:01 PM] hedgeberg: like, nintendo is not going to suddenly roll over and die
[1:01 PM] hedgeberg: If they were really worried about it, they would have hired serious security professionals who know their stuff
^ For people talking about piracy on the Switch. ^

I'm gonna be honest with you guys, here is my little secret. If the Switch was hacked tomorrow and released tomorrow and allowed piracy, I'd, I'd, buy a Switch tomorrow and hack it for free games!

Phew, that was hard to get off my chest. I hope I didn't offend anyone!

:P

Yeah, there's no reason to get hyped about a kernel before it pops. When it's popped, then we can celebrate, both in the food sense, and in the hacking sense.

OP
I personally hope the switch doesn't get hacked for a few years. I don't want the console to just die. it has literally no games that can't be played/bought elsewhere. praying for this is like praying for the death of Nintendo, and quite frankly, that's when I'll quit gaming. I don't like Microsoft, and I don't like Sony for various reasons.
Kernel access doesn't automatically mean piracy without tools to do so that work properly.
