Yes, you can. It'll ask to update software before starting the game if there's a title update. And there is the separate update for the System

really? ok this seems strange cause the 3ds needed the softwareupdate in order to update the games!

thank you!

do you know if it is possible to use the eshop without updating? would be great to hear ^^!

It used to be possible to use the Eshop without updating by turning off the system completely and then starting the eshop app as fast as possible to avoid the update nag, but I think that got patched in 3.0 though.

You shouldn't have any issues with updating anyway, the big hackers have said its fine to update as of now. No real point in keeping lower unless you REALLY REALLY wanna make sure you get lower firmware hacks, which I reckon they'll just go for the highest possible straight away.

if u think about the ps4 scene anyway ^^ the hacking scene in 2017 is really really odd... tbh
but yap lets see!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Why not just update and save yourself the hassle? There is no benefit to staying on lower firmware at the moment as we have no exploits available. I'm probably going to have people yelling at me for this post but it doesn't make sense to me to not update

ninja'd :ninja:
man the only benefit would be the earlieruse of an exploit if it gets ever released but i wanted to make no mistakes if u look at the ps4 scene... .. 1.7 is exploitable and above ... nothing as u can see ^^

I don't think it is a good idea to wait avoiding updates, new functionality and new games just in case some day in the future an exploit becomes available, and it just happens to be one that only works on low firmware and no further exploit is ever found at a later date.
I mean, if you are willing to wait until an exploit is released and meanwhile you just let the Switch collect dust, you could as well lust use and enjoy the Switch and later when that hypothetic exploit is released, then wait until a time machine becomes available and go back in time to get an early firmware Switch.

As I once said, theres a simple image to represent what an update is :
imagine a cube, inside theres all the system of the switch.
The cube itself is a firmware.
The cube isnt made of plastic but of stone
which means there are cracks in it sometime there and there.
those cracks are exploit. There are big one (obvious exploit but rare) but most of them are very tiny.
it is hard to find those tiny cracks but when you find one, it goes either deep or not (it represent what part of the console the exploit will hack)
Now about these updates.
Updates dont just patch those cracks. it's not how it works.
When they release a new firmware, they must replace the whole cube.
In that case, ofc the crack will be gone, maybe even more that werent found. but it might create new cracks, new imperfections

Thats how exploit works (Well thats how i understood them)
