u can play ps3 and psx games without anything extra. the swap discs were for ps2 use. I still own them actually. the ps2 emulator works well enough, but not all games work. if there's a certain game u want to work, check the list. it works remarkably well though considering this is supposed to be for certain games that were optimized by sony. retroarch has some issues, but it has issues on every console. I've not tested it much except for on the vita. I did test the genesis, retroarch emulator on the ps3 under my other name, pinky. it worked fine from what I saw. I can say that the ps3 is left hanging when it comes to retroarch since it's difficult to debug issues on the system. that's the reason for late releases or no release at all. the head dev for it on the ps3, perhaps other systems, is on psx-place btw if u need information.

it's pretty sad when u need to watercool a console to prevent it from failing. the two places companies cut corners - cooling and optical drives. what may be the two most important components. I've personally never had issues with Nintendo consoles, but they tend to tone it down. I've left my wii u on overnight multiple times. no issues.

You can probably put a h100i v2 on there for about a hundred bucks.

more than the cost of a used ps2 is the problem. that may even be clinching it with a used ps3 regardless the model. a new ps4 is what $250? plus, if that thing starts leaking everywhere, u might have a number of ruined electronics. I remember this happening to someone who installed water cooling in his xbox 360. the point is u shouldn't have to do that. this isn't pc gaming after all. water cooling shouldn't cost more than the system itself.

yeah, I think at this point a fat ps3 is not worth it. I really want it to play ps2 games with a wireless controller with good tv quality. But that doesn't seem to be happening.

u can have decent quality on the ps2. I'm not sure if the ps3 even upscales anything. there r some options to improve picture quality, but not very many. with the ps2, u do have logitech as far as controllers go. they make the official ps2 wireless controller. I think it uses ir, not blutooth. the wii and virtual wii use ir as well.

You could probably get a full BC phat downgraded and reballed for $150 or so if you're willing to put the effort in (just a guess based on UK prices)

That makes one absolute beast of a console even by today's standards - natively plays 3 full consoles' worth of titles as well as all the ones it can emulate

Look through Facebook eBay is garbage the website and the seller will both try scamming you

Also true, I've bought 3 PS3s off eBay lately, (expensive) debugging station had a faulty disc drive then got the GLOD the day I recieved it, one I bought as spares because it was "overheating" that had the YLOD as soon as I got it, the other with a "corrupted hard drive" that's had the worst reflow/IHS removal job I have ever seen presumably screwing up the SATA connection somewhere along the line

Anyway point is don't believe everything you read on eBay

I bought from eBay and I got one with a broken power cord and I mean the internal power connection to the motherboard I get that fixed and the internet just doesn't work period not as in it's banned as in whatever allows it to connect to the internet is just dead wifi and Ethernet neither work

What's worse is he told me it worked perfectly fine

I buy from Facebook and I get a perfectly working system and the guy throw in like 5 controllers and 3 games and a terabyte external hard drive screw ebay

Huh that's ridiculous. Not heard of that problem before with both Ethernet and wifi but that sucks.

I'll have a look on Facebook, I normally buy off Gumtree, people don't want to rip you off face to face haha, most of the stuff I've bought they've let me try out before taking it!

First of all, I am so thankful that a lot of you guys are supporting me with suggestions, but I ended up deciding against the idea. It seems like a hustle right now

No worries, you do have to be very careful. IMO the way I would go is get a full BC one with YLOD and intact warranty seal (most untouched ones without YLOD will be on their way out anyway), then get it reballed and downgraded but that only works if you can find someone dependable and cheap

I bought a OFW 3.55 80GB PS3 Slim from ebay for $130 USD a few months ago. I installed 4.81 rebug on it without any problems.

So, just lurk on ebay until you find a reasonably priced 3.55 PS3

Just out of curiousity , where is a good place to buy a ps3 3.55 ofw console today?

I want it to be from a reliable seller and hopefully a cheap one. and ideally, I hope it is a ps3 fat so that it is backwards compatible with ps2.

How much is the price usually for those consoles?

Edit: I just realized that my post title is click baity. How do I change the title of the post?
You buy them on eBay or you buy one with a model number in the range you need and flash it with a progskeet. Buy it with CFW preinstalled or you're going to have a bad time.

Usually the fats with bc jailbroken/jailbreakable are around 400$ since they are rare,The jailbroken/jailbreakable slims or fats without bc are usually 250$ or lower
