So i thought id make a thread for this issue im having so i have recently been trying to run homebrew on my new 3ds xl but im new to this kind of thing and i found a hackrom i wanted to try but it requires a few things such as custom firmware and then i found the homebrew launcher and most options seem impossible for me or patched(also idk anything about payloads, where they go what they do etc), so i found oot3dhax and i managed to download it well enough and with hans i can run the hack rom after many steps so that leaves me with the biggest problem im using version 11.4.0-37u firmware assuming that homebrew launcher does work and for this version how would i know how to activate/use it there is no instructions so if im understanding this correctly in order to use oot3dhax it requires the homebrew launcher which requires oot3dhax? any help would be appreciated or you could tell me how useless it would be to attempt such a thing

with hans i can run the hack rom after many steps
So you got homebrew working?

f im understanding this correctly in order to use oot3dhax it requires the homebrew launcher which requires oot3dhax?
This is right, it's a secondary exploit meaning you need a second console with access to homebrew already, or a PowerSaves device.

Alright. Here goes...
Since you have 11.4, you can install CFW (custom firmware) with very specific DSiWare or a hardmod. Follow 3ds.guide.
i also have an old 3ds xl that is at 11.3.0-36u
If you'd like to use the old3DS instead, you can use SoundHax to install CFW (custom firmware). Follow 3ds.guide.

The PowerSaves backups are what you restore to the cartridge. Payloads go on your SD. The two files are probably different ones for the two cart revisions. Try one, and if it doesn't work, try the other.

Don't mean to be rude but are you reading the guide, I mean really reading the guide?
You're meant to be in Godmode9(hold start when you turn on the 3ds/2ds), tho you can do this in FBi(well I don't see why you shouldn't be able to, but I'm not an expert)

Isn't that step iii, unless op is confused. Step vi is moving stuff to ctr-nand(boot.firm and the luma folder).
Section IV is installing cias:
Section IV - Installing CIAs
  1. Launch FBI from the list of homebrew
  2. Navigate to SD -> cias
  3. Select “<current directory>”
  4. Select the “Install and delete all CIAs” option, then press (A) to confirm
  5. Press (Home), then close Download Play

Follow exactly what it says - it tells you exactly what buttons to press and in what order.
