How to Install Derrek's Sighax

PLEASE NOTE : THIS GUIDE IS FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE DIRECTLY UPGRADING FROM A9LH AND WANT TO USE HIS INSTALLER! I HIGHLY SUGGEST PEOPLE USE 3ds.guide FOR THIS! I ALSO DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO DO THIS WITHOUT A HARDMOD JUST IN CASE SOMETHING SCREWS UP! I DO NOT TAKE ANY BLAME IF YOUR SYSTEM BRICKS. A NAND BACKUP IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! THIS IS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME THING AS B9S BUT LACKS THE SAFETY CHECKS OF THE B9S INSTALLATION GUIDE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

Hey Everyone! I thought I would write up this tutorial for people who decide to use Derrek's Sighax installer. I do not recommend doing it because many people, including me have bricked. I had to get a hardmod done on my 3DS just so I could revive it and write this tutorial. (Plus, I do love my 3DS)

Step 1 : Download the latest version of the "sighax_installer" and place it on the root of your SD card. This will ask to replace your arm9loaderhax.bin, click "yes" Download link provided here.

Step 2 : Download the The latest release of boot9strap. and rename it "target_firm.bin" (Without the quotations) and place it on the root of your SD card.

Step 3 : Follow the on screen instructions very carefully! It will ask you if it's okay to remove A9LH and proceed with the installation. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PROPER FILES ON THE ROOT OF YOUR SD CARD!

Step 4 : If you're ready, press "A" and continue everything. Once sighax is successfully installed, it will ask you to power off. Go ahead and power off your 3DS and take out your SD card.

Step 5 : Download The latest release of Luma3DS and place the boot.firm in the root of your SD card. Everything should boot up fine meaning the installation was successful!

I've provided screen shots of the files that need to be on your SD card before the installation for reference.

Hopefully this guide will help people use his installer and not have as many bricks.

AGAIN : I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR BRICKED CONSOLES! I WARNED YOU! I STILL HIGHLY SUGGEST THE USAGE OF 3ds.guide!!!

Hopefully this guide is helpful for the few people that want to do this! This is my first guide, so please tell me if something needs to be fixed!
Credit goes to all developers hard work to make this possible!

Would this work if you already have installed boot9strap as 3ds.guide tells you how to?
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe if you want this one, (which is essentially the same thing) you'll have to uninstall b9s to install this one! I'm not exactly sure though, so don't quote me on it!

Great guide. Nice and easy. Grab two files, place on SD card, press a few buttons, done. Simple. Now, get back to your chemistry homework!

Why would you want to do that? Both install the same thing to your 3DS, only the installer is different. The end result should be the same whether you use 3ds.guide or the sighax installer.

Correct. As long as you use the B9S loader as your target_firm.bin.

I was so confused for a second until I saw the PDF file on the SD! I graduated high school last year, so that was left on there from then! I'm glad it was simple for you! Hopefully others won't have as many bricks as before

what is the purpose of this? you're just installing boot9strap with a different possibly less-secure installer. that's not using derrek's "sighax" payload.

All I was doing was showing people how to install the section of his site "upgrading from A9LH". I stated I don't recommend doing it multiple times. It's just for those who want to do it, if the tutorial needs to be updated to your needs, or anyone else's, I will do it, no problem! I can try the install the way you want me to if you would like?

thing is, this is essentially a less-safe method of https://3ds.guide/updating-to-boot9strap - it does not provide any benefits, you're just using a different installer to install the same thing in the end. afaik the installer lacks some safety checks and doesn't back up FIRMs before installing(need to check again).

It backs up the FIRMS! I will change the OP stating that they are essentially the same

so it apparently does verify hashes and backup FIRM0 at sighax_backup_firm.bin and sighax_backup_firm_enc.bin, which is good. doesn't seem to install to FIRM1 though, or back it up, but sure.

I just wanted to know, just curiosity.
I don't plan to use derrek's installed at all.

Doesn't derreks write to nand? I'm certain the 3ds.guide still uses SD card.. With the option of CTRNand install.

That, I don't know! More work is going and has gone into B9S, and I'm completely fine with that, it's a much safer way and it's the same thing
Perhaps he wants to continue developing because he is the one that found the vulnerability in the first place? Or perhaps people are creating a chainloader other than B9S?

Just installed B9S with this method.
Worked fine, even if the installer told me that FIRM0 was corrupted (FIRM1 was fine).
Any advantages of using B9S?
How to get other Tools like Hourglass9 to work by buttonpressing at start?

Since you're using Luma, make a folder structure like this /luma/payloads/ and put files like Hourglass9 or Godmode9 in that folder. Luma now only supports .firm so make sure they have that file extension. After you do that, press "start" while booting and that will start the Luma Chainloader for payloads!

Thats true, personally I don't play it online at all, in fact, I deleted all wifi details on it once I installed CFW, so it won't connect and auto-update itself
