I have CBHC 1.6 installed. I was recently thinking of unlinking my NNID because I want to get rid of it and I don't use any network features, is it safe to do?

No. Unlinking your NNID will make CBHC unbootable, you will brick the console that way. If the NNID wasnt used to buy the Haxchi DS VC, then your fine. But you will brick if you remove the NNID that was used to buy the legit DS VC that Haxchi uses.

You will need to "Uninstall" CBHC/Haxchi from HBL first, then unlink the NNID.

If you still want Haxchi/CBHC, then you need to keep your NNID on your console.

The NNID is required for the NDS VC game that Powers CBHC. If the NNID that was used to download the NDS game, then CBHC will be unbootable.

EDIT: From
https://wiiu.guide/coldboot-haxchi

Never uninstall the CBHC DS virtual console game or you will BRICK.

Never reinstall the CBHC DS virtual console game from the eShop or you will BRICK.

Never move the CBHC DS virtual console game to a USB drive or you will BRICK.

Never delete the user account NNID that has purchased the CBHC DS virtual console game or you will BRICK!

Never format your device while CBHC is installed or you will BRICK!

When you unlink a NNID, the titles continue to work until the next time the Wii U connects to eShop. At that point, the tickets get deleted. If you made a backup with Tik2SD, you can copy the backed-up tickets onto the console to re-enable the games.

BUT... if you're on CBHC and reboot before you restore the ticket, you're screwed.

Bit of a noob question but if you don't cold boot is the only difference that it takes an extra press to load Haxchi.

But if you format, remove nnid or delete the Haxchi game entry you won't brick?

Of course. The "problem" with CBHC is the "coldboot" part of it. If you no longer have a Haxchi to coldboot, you don't cold boot shit and that's a brick.
If your Haxchi is not set to coldboot, removing it will just, well, remove Haxchi you know.

You won't get brick I guess since this is not how the console is programmed to boot (CBHC changes it so if the DS game can't boot so the system can't boot), but the game itself won't work for my opinion. The difference is how the console boots at the start, nothing else

What @LaPingas said.

You're correct. CBHC just runs HaxChi on boot. Eliminating one extra click. If you do anything to mess up HaxChi at this point you brick. Including format.

If you only have HaxChi and you mess up HaxChi you're fine. Just reinstall HaxChi

Thanks guys. Thought that was correct but just wanted to really make sure! It's a shame that there's not a safer way of running Haxchi like it first checks for that game... If it doesn't exist then boot system menu... Or boot file from SD or something.

Although I don't understand fully the limitations of access to the Wii U inner workings.

The installer already does that...

...and it would be a bit pointless to add a check, inside a certain piece of software, for whether that same program is installed :)

Sorry I wrote that wrong. I meant a safer way of running cold boot. At the minute it's that specific title or NOTHING / brick. Its a shame it can't check for the Haxchi entry... If not found then boot stock system menu.

You'll have to complain at Nintendo for that, and I don't think they're releasing any more updates :)

In the boot process an xml file is read to determine ONE title that represents the user interface (said title being the launcher menu officially, a DS game if you installed CBHC, potentially any game if you wouldn't mind being stuck on that one forever)

The risk and consequences of the official Wii U Menu becoming missing or corrupted by natural causes (as opposed to user error) aren't bigger (for any statistically significative amount) than any arbitrary other title installed on internal storage;

the 3DS on the other hand does support a second spare launcher (TestMenu, if installed) but I similiarly can't think of anyone who could have benefited from this capability, in part because there are software-based recovery options (A9LH/Sighax payloads), in part because nobody -outside of 20 of the maybe 40 people who mod their launcher- really breaks their launcher!

Yeah, no consequences.
It's not like your Wii U will become unbootable without it. If Wii U Menu even corrupts by itself, you will get slapped with 'There's a problem with System memory.'. So Wii U Menu is still the core of your Wii U.

If the official home is selected as the launcher in system.xml and suddenly it can't start, then you can't launch anything
If a DS game with CBHC injected is selected [...] and suddenly it can't start, then you can't launch anything
If Meme Run is selected in system.xml because you thought it would have been cool to make your console only run that title, and suddenly it can't start, then you can't launch anything :)

Hello

Latest haxchi user here. On 5.5.2 and normal haxchi installed. A friend of mine wants to buy my Wii u and he wants to keep haxchi. I created him a new mii and new user without a NNID so now he can access haxchi from that other account. My question is, can I delete my old user account with my linked NNID that I used to buy the DS game? (Brain age) and he will keep haxchi or will I need to unlink and everything will be lost? This is very confusing thanks.

You need to keep the nnid in order to use haxchi

You'll have to buy a new game under his NNID
