Splatoon Girl Hand Gesture Removed from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Deemed "Offensive"

On the recent update of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe v1.1 Nintendo has removed the hand gesture of Splatoon Girl because some people might feel offended by it.

This is insane. Even Mario Kart isn't safe from what this or that might be considered "offensive." :(

Splatoon Girl was only doing the hand gesture "YES!" and this is deemed unacceptable.

For those that may defend the censorship, there are people who may indeed find it disrespectful but that's them and in real life, this is a fictitious, harmless video game that should be left alone from being censored.

In America its super mild, someone might do the hand on the bicep while lifting the other hand here but its rare and not really well known as a rude gesture, but in certain parts of the world its well known and akin to giving someone the finger.
I dunno, just reminds me of Popeye, when he flex his muscles. Maybe that is the problem, sailors are known to have some questionable habits. :P

Yeah exactly, you don't see it as offensive, because you grew up somewhere where it really wasn't offensive. Just like there are places in the world where the middle finger means nothing and in some cases actually means peace. When your game is being played by people all over the world together and is aiming to be accessible to players of all ages, it makes sense that they're going to remove gestures that didn't initially seem offensive to them until they learned of how other cultures perceive the gesture.

Those here that are complaining about the update sound really stupid since this was legitimately offensive content. It may not be offensive for NA or JPN, but it's offensive for EU (or at the very least, a lot of places in Europe).

This is an example of proper censorship, at least in my honest opinion.

In México that censored gesture means PUTO= fucking gay, homosexual etc

EDIT: my mistake, sorry in México, that gesture means: "GO FUCK YOURSELF"

That's actually hilarious, I'm amazed that it got into the game in the first place.

Because a small, minor animation change isn't anywhere close to newsworthy.
Really? I'll just leave this here...

Getting back on topic, I don't see how this is offensive. It may mean "up yours" in certain parts of the world according to this thread, but I've certainly never seen it here in the U.S.A.

It's still pretty stupid to report on. It's a minor change that isn't important at all.
Well, everyone has their own opinions. Yours is that it isn't important. Mine is that it is.

It's still offensive to other people whether you've seen it in the US or not. People all over the world play this game and it's bound to offend a lot of people depending on where they're from, it's a reasonable thing for Nintendo to remove.

In France, this gesture means something like "go fuck yourself". Actually, you slap your hand on the other arm's biceps, while you rise this last arm up.
It's about the same meaning as the middle finger. It's pretty rude and offensive.
i can understand they removed it. How could i explain my 5yo son he mustn't use this, when his fav' videogame does (it's for the exemple, my son doesn't know this gesture... well, i hope).
