Nintendo working on a Zelda adaptation for smartphones, according to WSJ

It might be one's dream come true or another's nightmare but apparently, Nintendo is looking to bring yet another one of its most popular franchises to smartphones; this time it's The Legend of Zelda.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, the House of Mario will be bringing Link & Co. to smartphones following the upcoming mobile version of Animal Crossing, which is expected to arrive sometime this year.

It should be noted that the WSJ report mentions the mobile adaptation as an app. So it's not clear as to whether it is an app, a port or an entirely new game à la Super Mario Run.

While the report isn't confirmed, both Nintendo and mobile company DeNA declined to comment to The Wall Street Journal.

Nevertheless, I'm interested about what you think! Will a Zelda app or game fit smartphones? If so, what kind of game/app based off the Zelda universe do you think will best fit the format?

Iffy, as I am with the Animal Crossing game since I love both series to death.
I'm not much of a mobile player as I hate the touchscreen controls for many games so I'm hoping it's just something small like Mario Run and (I think) FE Heroes. I personally wouldn't like for a full-fledged title to be mobile-exclusive as unlikely as that is.

As long as they don't try to sell it as a main entry to the Zelda series, why not? It could focus on dungeons and puzzle solving.

I hope this one will have content.

Fire Emblem heroes is a run after 2 ultra top tier unit and there is nothing to do after completing the campaign.
Last update just added a mindless system of skill transfer so you can spend more of your sweet money for orb in hope of looting the leet skill.

Mario run is fun but... well I prefer to play Mario world or bros.

Those games start on a good idea, but Nintendo doesn't seem to have the right mindset when developing them.

probably be some form of app that ties in with the game, maybe something like pokemon go but you walk around aimlessly and find items then use them in the game, maybe it will have even more shrines.

personally (again not starting a war) nintnedo should be done with BOTW its tried to copy the likes of skyrim and failed..... i actually wonder if/when skyrim comes to the switch its reviews will say something like the next best thing since zelda.

cant say ive been a fan of oblivion, but i got skyrim the other day for the 360 and am actually really enjoying it and can see what nintendo have tried to do but failed.
