[RELEASE] Remember11 -The Age of Infinity- PSP English Translation

Just to be clear, I didn't create this patch, I'm just posting it here because not many people know about it, so I thought it'd be nice to share it. Also, make sure to check out @MrComputerRevo's translation port of Ever17.

Synopsis:

Fuyukawa Kokoro, a third-year sociology major, boards a plane bound for Hokkaido to meet a research subject in the Specified Psychiatric Hospital for Isolation and Aegis, or SPHIA. For unknown reasons, her plane crashes in the mountains in the middle of a snowstorm. Of the 31 passengers, only she, Kusuda Yuni, Yomogi Seiji, and Mayuzumi Lin survive unharmed. Unable to establish communication with the outside world due to the fierce snowstorm, the four decide to take shelter in an empty cabin and wait until the storm passes.

Yukidoh Satoru, a graduate student in the field of quantum physics, falls from the SPHIA clock tower. He later awakens with some memory loss and the realization that someone is out to kill him. Unable to leave the SPHIA facility due to a snowstorm, Satoru's only chance at living is to find that person among the three other residents (or perhaps the hidden culprit) of SPHIA.

Shortly after, Kokoro and Satoru realize that they are somehow exchanging bodies and Yuni appears to be at both of their locations...

This looks pretty neato. After playing Nightshade, Virtue's Last Reward, Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice, and Fire Emblem Fates (fite me; most "scenes" are just text) i'm on a visual novel rampage recently.

It's weird how long the description is. The protagonist descriptions go into so much deep detail about what they're studying. Assuming those are just copy and pastes, of course. For god's sake, just say they're a student. No need to be like

PLUUPY IS A 24-YEAR OLD, FIRST YEAR CRNA NURSING STUDENT ON A PLANE FOR NEW YORK CITY TO VISIT ICHAN MOUNT SINAI AND BEGIN THE RESEARCH OF ANESTHESIA AFTER RECENTLY PASSING THE NCLEX.

I just made this up. I fucking wish. Seriously tho, the character description doesn't need to delve so deeply.

Just as a warning for anyone who hates wasting hours of their lives: What exists of Remember11 is great and has a lot of potential, but also has quite possibly the most unsatisfying resolution of any published work I've ever read. I can't say it's worse than something like Zero Time Dilemma, where everything's thrown together half-assedly in an attempt to 'wrap up' earlier plots, but in some ways that might be better.

And just a warning for anyone reading the above comment: it's his opinion, not a fact. I, for one, loved Remember11 all the way through. I can't discuss the ending without dipping into spoilers, but it definitely fits the vibe of other Infinity/Uchikoshi works. If you love sci-fi, give it a read. And to prove I'm not just being a contrarian, I agree with FireEmblemGuy about ZTD's ending.

Their majors have major implications in the plot. It makes sense to talk about them.

Is there any gameplay in this at all? Do you make choices and affect the story?
There are dozen of decisions throughout the story, ranging from largely irrelevant to instant game overs. As it's a visual novel, that's the extent of the gameplay, unless you count browsing through the gallery and TIPS menu (though it sounds like the latter is pretty buggy at the moment).

Thanks for the clarification. I have never played a visual novel but I wouldn't mind giving them a try.

Finished this version a while ago and it now ranks among my top 3 of best VNs I've ever played (as good as Steins;Gate). I've asked this in the Ever 7 PSP patch thread already without a response from its creator: Would the same thing be possible for the Never 7 PSP version? It would be so great to have the first 3 Infinity games completely available on the PSP. Any way to contact the guy who did the R11 patch for PSP?

Both guys who made Ever17 and Remember11 patches are on this Discord server, so you could join and ask them: https://discord.gg/qK2VN4m

The one who patched Ever17 is MrComputerRevo#1200 and the one who patched Remember11 is BattleJuice#4141

Thanks, I'll try to get into contact with them. Need to figure out discord first, never used it. XD

Did they say anything to you? Would be pretty convenient to have all the games on PSP.

I never had luck trying to make these ancient PC games to work properly, with this one being no exception (either full-screen or windowed).

There is a game called Ever17 registered to Steam DB, and it received changes last month.

https ://steamdb. info/app/200090/history/

Do you guys think there is any chance of these games being ported to Steam?

The guy who made the Ever 17 patch said that he initially intended to do the same for Never 7, but after asking for permission, the translators forbid him to use their translation. After looking into it I can understand why he didn't do it anyway: Basically Never 7 was fan translated by Lemnisca Translations who later founded their own company with the more current VN Root Double as their first project (btw: they also fan translated 12Riven, the 4th Infinity series game but due to legal implications they can't release it). Either way, I guess he feared the consequences.

If you can't wait, I recommend starting Never 7 in Windows 98 compatibility mode (right click on the exe under properties). It worked for me on my Win 10 tablet. So far I really love the VN, definitely better pacing than Ever 17. It would be great to see official releases of the Infinity series on STEAM. But since the VNs were fan translated by different groups this may be relatively unlikely.

You're willing to port the game despite not having permission, huh. It's not like Lemnisca has rights on English alphabet, anyway, so why not?

When I run the game on full-screen mode, the intro video fills my primary monitor but the game runs on the third one. Hard to explain.

On window-mode it just shows a white screen and eventually the intro video, but if I click on it, the white screen takes place again.

In any case, playing a 640x480 PC game on the bigger screens we have today would not be a pleasurable experience, so I'm looking forward to see a PSP port in English.

It's better to get forgiveness than permission, when we are talking about fan-created things like this. Also, there are many ways to legally work around a copyright takedown, since the translation is publicly available to everyone on TLWiki.
I don't think it will even happen though.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

BTW, a small announcement:

I did some changes to TIPS in R11, which should make the game crash no more. Will release a new patch, including this and a few other changes soon.

Version 2.0 of the patch is out!

Version 2.0 Release Notes
  • Fixed all crashes in TIPS! Don't be paranoid about opening every other tip any more!
  • Enhanced digit glyphs in the game font. Digits 2-9 will now look just as crisp, as the rest of the characters. ("0" and "1" were ok since v1.0beta)
  • Decreased spacing for whitespace and comma. Text will be a little bit more dense now.
  • The scene text preprocessing script was rewritten, which should fix minor inconsistencies in text formatting.
Great work, dreambottle. One of the guys on my server actually played the PSP copy and is happy to see that the TIPS are now fixed.

I know this is the R11 thread, but perhaps this way it finds the right people: About a potential PSP patch of the first Infinity series game, Never 7... I remember the problem being that the original source files unlike with R11 weren't on TLWiki anymore which is why making a Never 7 PSP patch was impossible or rather really hard. Well, coincidentally I used the waybackmachine to a 2015 archive snapshot and actually found the entire naked Never 7 fan patch script archived with the Japanese and English strings next to each other.

https://web.archive.org/web/20150128064719/https://tlwiki.org/index.php?title=Never_7

Perhaps this could make a Never 7 PSP patch more achievable now? I guess both, R11 and Never 7 on the PSP use the same engine. With the naked script available would using the same method as on the R11 PSP patch be possible now?
