Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition broke the series records with it's US launch sales. The game is great, I own Mario Kart 8 and all the DLC on the Wii U. But Nintendo goes charging full price for a remake of a 3 year old game. And people buy it. Lots and lots of people are buying it.

So what exactly changed in the Deluxe Edition?

60 fps rather than 59. Most of us can't tell the difference.
No fire hopping. This should have been introduced to the Wii U version in an update.
Battle mode. This should have already been in the Wii U version.
A few new characters. A cool addition, but nothing groundbreaking.

All the DLC. This is something worth having.
1080p. Once again, something worth having and the Wii U just wasn't capable of it.

Sure, if you didn't own a Wii U then this is certainly worth the money, but compared to other remakes the game is quite unfairly priced. And the silent majority of idiots who dominate the marketplace let them get away with it.

I think it's a little ridiculous, yeah. It gets good reviews because MK8 was a very good game and this is just an objectively better version of it. But there's no denying it's a cash grab and just filler for the Switch's tiny library.
It is an obvious filler title. The launch lineup was horrible and the "big" games are releasing later in the year :/

Even the 3ds had more titles at launch.

you...do realize that this method has been used by sony and microsoft a *lot*? Personally, I don't mind the re-release because it basically allows me to play mario kart 8 on the go. It's great for flirting with people. Just consider it a multi-platform release. It'd be as if folks don't mind buying it for ps4 and PC, because the difference in functionality is nice.

Fire Hoping was't completely removed in mk8(wii u) but it was basically rendered useless after they released the 200cc update.

With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, they balanced and spruced up many of the game's core mechanics (Like drifting) and they fully removed firehopping.
