The Nintendo Switch sold over 900k units in March (North America)

switchy.jpg

Despite the hype leading to a frequent lack of stock online, Nintendo's newest home console ended up selling 906,000 units in the month of its launch. This makes the Switch one of the fastest selling Nintendo consoles in the company's history. Console sales weren't the only thing reported, either, as sales figures for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild were revealed as well. The Switch version of the game moved 925,000 copies, oddly outselling the target console itself. In the case of the Wii U version, there were 460,000 games sold.

Of course they will, Nintendo invented pointless revisions. Taking one look at the 3/DS line makes the future of the Switch blatantly obvious, provided the system is successfully adopted.
Yes, because the port placement makes it impossible to use it. The vent is placed correctly, but the USB-C port is not - it should be on the top, right next to it, where it's always accessible, while the bottom should be occupied by a proprietary docking rail specifically designed for the Switch dock for proper seating instead of the wobbly nonsense that was implemented in the final unit. The heatsink and vent placement matters because of physics - heat rises to the top, so the sink and vent need to be as high as possible to prevent heat from affecting the case and other components. It's placed correctly as it is and shouldn't be moved.
It's a couple traces and a port that costs less than a dollar.

We really didnt need a 2ds... or a "new" one for that matter.

Wouldn't say impossible. Just doesnt fit your specifications. Why have 2 ports? Why not just move it. It'd be a waste to add a 2nd one just for the sake of tabletop charging. Where it's at now doesn't hinder the use of much else.

Thats really not a waste when its so cheap, if it were a proprietary port that cost them more wouldve made think otherwise, however, its a standard port.

You need a bottom port or a rail for the dock - it's unavoidable. At the same time, not having an auxiliary port does hinder use significantly - with the current placement, with the charger connected, the cable is *facing the user* in handheld mode which is inconvenient and gets in the way, while in set-top mode it's completely inaccessible, so the placement is poor in two out of three modes of operation. Bad design. Do note that *the Wii U tablet* has two charging points - one port/rail for its powered dock on the bottom and one charger port on the top, as I'm suggesting, so it's not overcomplicating anything, Nintendo just overlooked this flaw.

Simple fix, works well.

The N3DS is what the OG 3DS should've been - I'll never get over the fact that the console wasn't dual analog from the get-go.

There is a reason more Zeldas were bought than Switches and i know a few of the people responsible myself. I ebayed a few Zelda limited editions to people where it was not available at all, given they are now region free. 3 of them said that they only wanted to get the limited edition before it runs out, as they either had no immediate interest in getting a wii (waiting for a v2 or waiting for more games) and one said he cancelled his preorder after all the details came out. Another one, a friend, bought the game so he just secures his limited edition copy for when/if he gets one.

Nintendo has done the unthinkable. They managed to sell software (more software than hardware) to people that have no interest in (immediately) getting the hardware to play it (!!!) and at the same time, they are stopping production of one of their most popular products (the nes mini) in order to "focus" (bollocks) on the Switch. This speaks volumes about what is happening with the switch right now. They better drop a few megaton bombs at E3. Why just stop the Nes mini production? Just keep it in line with your other products. If they feel the Switch is threatened by the Nes mini, it means they have TO GET TO FUCKING WORK and do something about the Switch, rather than stop a cash making machine. Or you know, delay the fucking Nes mini until your new console is out perhaps? Nintendo and logic - 2 things that do not combine these days.

I'm thinking they discontinued the NSA mini so it wouldn't interfere with NES VC sales on the Switch (fingers crossed that this is the precursor to an announcement)

They ended production because it was supposed to be a limited collectible item - it has the word "limited" on the box. It wouldn't have any value if everyone and their dog had one. It was very successful though, so expect more like it - a SNES box would be nice.

Still unnecessary spending on something so redundant.. Which, guess what?.. Makes it a waste.
For convenience and comfort, that's why. If you want to go for the bottom line and cheapest solution possible, why have a touchscreen if you have buttons? Why have motion controls if you have analog sticks? Why have a screen at all if you have HDMI? Having multiple ways to do the same thing is not a "waste" if it serves a specific purpose. Nintendo has been adding dual ports for years, they're not just on the Wii U game pad, they're also on their portables. Either after many years of implementing them they suddenly changed their mind or they just screwed up the design of something very simple.

Although a good SNES box might be expensive to obtain the licensing for. Then again there's a lot of good first-party titles that could carry it, but it wouldn't be AS good without Chrono Trigger, Turtles in Time, Megaman X, etc.

After the Mini NES's success every publisher will be queuing to sell their old games for more than they're worth, I don't see this as an issue. The only problem they might have would be getting rights from now-defunct companies.

Just thought of an even better idea... Just make the kickstand upside down and have the Switch change orientation. Joycons can be place the other way round too.
You can't do that because some idiot at Nintendo made the joycons slide in only one direction for no reason and sliding them on the other way makes them jam, because a bidirectional rail would be way too much hassle. Major flaw #2.

Thats why they should fix those damn rails too.

My idea might be an issue if there is active cooling while in portable but I dont think there is.

I don't know why we're even considering weird upside-down shenanigans as a solution when every modern dockable device has a dock rail and a port - grab your phone or 3DS and check. I understand cost cutting measures, but if my convenience is worth less than a $1 to Nintendo then that says a lot about the company. Turning the console upside-down is not a sensible solution with active cooling, and even if it's passive it's still ridiculous.

Indeed, but if they really did care about that $1 they should've at least done that.
